    Choke coming loose

I've noticed that on both my Benelli Supersport 12 gauge and my wife's Benelli M2 Field Compact 12 gauge, the choke will become loose after a couple of rounds of trap. It is not enough for the choke to be shot out of the gun but it is a little irritating.

What do you guys use to secure the choke in a non-permanent fashion? I don't want to use glue or anything that will make it too difficult to remove and clean the choke later on.

    Thanks.

Believe it or not, I use grease on the threads.
Clean the threads, both choke and barrel, apply a small amount of grease to the choke threads and install. Snug slightly with a wrench. I have yet to have one come loose on me. Even after shooting several hundred rounds...

Thanks, I read on another forum and some recommend doing this too, I'll try it. Some one recommend a Anti-Seize Grease on Amazon, will something like this work?

About the wrench, will the one that came with the shotgun work? Someone on another forum recommended getting something like a Briley Speed Wrench, not sure if it'll work better than my Benelli wrenchs that came with the shotguns. Thanks.

I use white lithium grease, or choke tube grease if I have it. The choke tube wrench that came with your gun will work fine. Do not overtighten.

Anti-Seize should work as well. I shoot an O/U and use grease on the pivot points, so I already have that in the gun kit. The wrench that came with the gun will work just fine, no need to spend money on another wrench that does the same thing.

I use choke tube lube, then a snug to hold them in place, on my extended tubes just finger tight. The lube gives just enough tension to hold them in place.

I used grease and my choke would unscrew about 1/4 turn after every 100 rounds. So I tried the antisieze and at first it would unscrew some, then very little, then none at all, so I was pleased. Last month when cleaning it was stuck pretty good and had a very hard time getting out. It dried out and locked up too well. It left the choke pretty stained as well.

I cleaned and went back to grease. Does the choke grease work better than standard grease?

I have the same problem with my Super Sport. I run the choke clean and get it snug, but not overly tight. Yesterday, I set the choke finger tight and then shot about 25 rounds of birdshot and two slugs, and it was already backed out about an 1/8th of a turn. I was using the cylinder choke and shooting a stage at a local 3 gun match. I will have to try the grease.

Right now I'm using Mobile Grease 33 (Aviation grease) and to date, have had no issues with the chokes loosening up. Is it better than choke grease? I don't know, but for me it works well enough not to try anything else.

I just use Hoppes grease as I do on the other grease points on my break action shotguns. I make sure to get grease on the threads as well as on the smooth contact portions of the chokes. Only rarely is there loosening of the choke. Stick with whatever grease you normally use and check your chokes every 100 rounds or so. At the end of a shooting day clean the chokes and relube.

On grease, less is more. Carry your wrench with you, so you can check it now and then. Better to have to snug it every hundred rounds than to not lube it and have it seize.

I'm using the chokes that came with the Supersport and M2 (Extended and Flush Crio). I've order some anti-seize and will try those for now, if this keeps happening I'll check out Mueller. Thanks.

Just get your self a tube of White Lithium grease from your local hardware store, or some Birtchwood Casey choke tube lube from your LGS. Both work great and a small tube will last awhile.
