I guess it depends on what your preferences are.

It's not really a preference, just personal experience of what works and what doesn't when you are walking around in confined places in the dark. Weapon transitions and wide open spaces are one thing. Dangling objects that make noise and get caught on stuff is another scenario entirely.

Are you talking about actually wearing the sling? or just having it dangle loosely as you carry it?

Because when I am wearing my sling it doesn't dangle.

I have a Surefire forend on my 870 and a setup like the one you currently have on my Benelli. If I had to do over again, I would NOT get the Surefire forend. The downside to the Surefire is that it cannot be easily removed. It's nice having the ability to take the light off when I'm going to the range or shooting clays or something. The Surefire forend is also heavier.

You are right. You absolutely need a sling on it.

Good choice on the light. I love my g2. I wouldn't drop the coin for the sure fire front end. Confused on the sling though. Not sure what is the need unless you plan on cuffing someone? I hunt for hours with my 870 and never need a sling.
