    So my gf bought me....

    An mossberg 500 combo 12g!

    $324 OTD with dros included.

What mods should i look into doing for improving the gun? I see some people changing the forend, but which one to get?

    Some insight would be appreciated.

I am super excited, been wanting a shotgun for the longest.

$324? Ouch. They've sure gone up in the last ten years. The last combos I bought from Big5 were under $200.

The only "mods" you might consider doing is getting a barrel that accepts screw in chokes. Otherwise, all the tacticool crap out there is just for mall ninjas and does not improve performance. In many cases, it actually is a liability. My experience with 500s dates back to hunting waterfowl with lead shot. Yea, I've been shooting 500s for the last 35 years or so.

I really wanted the Surefire forend with integrated light, but I can't bring myself to spend as much as I spent on the gun just for a light, when I can get a clamp-on one from Big 5 for $50.

Good shotgun and at a good price if that is OTD! They have been going for $299-$339 for the last year or two. Have fun!

Stay away from tacticool. Go with practical improvements. A light mount, flashlight, and side saddle should be more than enough for home defense. Your Mossberg will perform as well as you will if you don't weigh it down with too much garbage. Go bust 200 clays and clean it, lube it and stand it in the corner waiting to be of service. Take a combat shotgun class when you can and learn to really fight with it.

shoot it a whole bunch! Take a Home Defense Shotgun or Tactical Shotgun class. Then see what practical add ons would fit your needs. Avoid useless tacticool crap.

ammo and field time with your gun is the best accessory.

Congrats welcome to the Mossberg family!

If your going with a semi traditional stock set up its hard to beat a Hogue but you will have to swap out the whole action tube assembly if you want to swap out the forend ( if its the newer fixed / pinned forearmed version ) hit me up if you need / want further details or have any questions. If your going more tactical like a pistol grip set up then Mesa Tactical is a bit higher cost than some but much better quality IMO. I think Magpul also just released their SGA stock for Mossbergs or at least I think they did?

Before playing Barbie doll with the gun shoot it for a while to become proficient with it then decide what parts to change. PS nice G.F but then they are always nice and good looking when they are young and before you marry them.

California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.
