Best piece of advice is to keep that piston clean. I know folks that clean it every 100 rounds.
And I am shocked that you chose the Mossberg over the Versamax. Big price difference between the two and IME, the Versamax is worth the price.

Wow OP I hate seeing stories like these. Sucks your having so much trouble. I have a 930 and it's a great gun. Hopefully you get that thing dialed in and get it running as it should.

I wouldn't go back to turners or at least that one if I were you.

Agreed the price difference was double. My FFL gave me a screaming deal on this JM so I figured I'd spin the wheel. No doubt I believe the Versamax is a nicer gun fit/finish reliability. I still may get one down the road we'll see. BTW impressive vids you've got running these type of guns!!

Thanks, man. Unfortunately, I know a few folks that have issues like the OP reported.
I also know a few folks that run them hard and they are holding up. They religiously clean the piston too. I hope your 930JM runs like a beast for you!

The piston on the 930's gets really fouled up after 100 rounds. I had to actually use a scraper to remove the built up carbon from the mag tube.

Take the time to disassemble and clean thoroughly after using it and rock on.

Just unboxed 9 dummy shells and loaded up the JM Pro. Sure enough, lots and lots of lifter bite. I don't understand why Mossberg would let these off the line with such issues.

Got my 24" Jm pro out of the box and shot about 75 shells mostly birdshot and combination of buckshot and slugs. No problem.

Ok, Sorry I haven't posted an update on this issue. Didn't actually get to take out out that weekend and then things kept coming up every time I wanted to go to the Range. I finally did get to take it out last weekend and I put 150 rounds of birdshot through it with absolutely no issues. Seems to be working like it was suppose to when I got it.

No Mossberg Customer Service was good it you talked to the right people. There was no email sent like Smith & Wesson did when I sent them a firearm. Just to let me know they received it and the estimated turnaround time. I only knew they received and signed for it by tracking the package. Also not notice that it was sent back either. If I had not called I would never have known that they shipped it to my home address and I had to tell FedEx to hold at the nearest FedEx pick up location because I'm not home as I informed them to ship it to my office.

No on to the firearm. Everything works great but they did not replace anything but the misaligned spring. Same bolt with all the battle scars. Either way I'm just glad that it works like it should.

"Awiner" thanks for all the help and suggestions and all others who gave me info.

Love the 500 and 590s. Been disappointed by the 930s. Will stick to pumps. Only semi autos I've seen that impressed me were a friends Benelli M4 and a friends Rem semiauto he used for clay shooting.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

I bought my 930 in January, it only has 100 rounds through it but the were malfunction free and I hope it stays that way. Once I figure out how to get the lifter out I'm going to send it to C-Runs to have it welded.

You can indeed return (well at least exchange) a firearm. I did just that at my local Big 5 a couple months ago. I bought an ATI semi-auto shotgun that wouldn't function right out of the box.

Big 5 took it back, applied the credit to the replacement and even paid for the second DROS fee. No cost to me involved at all but I did have to wait another 10 days.

I think he meant that you can't return firearms to the dealer HE went to (Turners)?

Big 5 is a dealer just like Turner's, though I honestly have no idea what Turner's Corp policy is on this. My comment was simply meant to point out that contrary to the OP'a assertion, you can indeed return a firearm. I have also heard of others returning a weapon to their LGS for store credit.

Thanks "Awiner" your 2 cents helped me out a lot.

"Steve_In_29" - I did in fact mean Turners and specifically the one in Pasadena as noted by "Lead Waster". They told me no returns and this was before I fired it. Then again who would have know with the amount of wear it had as a new firearm.

It has behaved well since and I'm taking her out to do some more skeet shooting. I like it a lot after getting it repaired and for the Money it is worth it. I just wish I had not had all the issues 1st. They just need to QA a little better. I think they were rushing them out because of the high demand at the time I ordered which was like February of 2013.
