As I pointed out above the most common issues relate to magazine tube spring length. This has prevented a lot of people from loading to stated capacity.

Mossberg 930 JM Pro Disappointment. Anyone Else?

Hey Guys just wanted to update you after taking the Shotgun apart and doing another through cleaning.
Well had the same issue with the Barrel not wanting to come off. After a little pulling yanking and a piece of 2 x 4 and mallet it came off… Appears that the reason it would not take more then 4 rounds is that the Magazine spring got caught on the barrel part that has the spring and gasket that were out of place that I tried to get back in place on the first cleaning when the bolt was stuck. I was unsuccessful obviously. As you can see here it is still sticking out slightly less then before but still sticking out.

and here:

and this piece fell out when removing the spring no idea where it came from. If any of you have a 930 JM Pro or SPX and know what it is that would be helpful and where did it come from?

Cleaned it up and noted that the barrel is probably not lined up correctly as it left some serious battle scars on the Bolt which is probably why it was stuck before I ever used it. See here:

It actually went into the metal not just rubbing paint off like in most firearms. I know its my first shotgun but I'm pretty sure that isn't normal wear and tear after only 50 rounds.
After I cleaned it throughly btw thanks "awiner" for the tip on the piston assembly got that spice and span clean. Had a lot of lead deposits inside. Anyway got all the moving parts lubed and made sure to straighten the magazine spring so it would go through that barrel thing with the spring and piston and put it all together. Filled it with 9 dummy rounds and cycled them through but the last 4 or 5 would not cycle though noticed the spring got caught on the other side of the piston / barrel thing took it apart fixed the issue and tried again same result. So after a frustrating go at it I've given up. I'm sending it back to Mossberg tomorrow who informed me that I have to pay to ship it to them. Really? What Customer Service. Disappointed even more because this is obviously an issue from the factory and they should stand by their product. Might have a used once JM Pro for Sale after I get it back. If anyone knows of any FN SLP™ MK I COMPETITION for sale let me know…
I want to thank everyone for all the advice and I did read it all. Also know that I'm not trying to bad mouth Mossberg just was initially trying to resolve the issue but its obviously something more serious then I originally thought. Especially after seeing the markings on the bolt I know that barrel has to be off by a small margin but enough to gouge marks on the bolt and make the barrel every hard to remove.
Also "Vintagedude88" thanks for the info and I did do all of that before going to the range as you can see from the photos prior to that. From the 1st cleaning and break down I don't think they applied rust inhibitor because it was the first new firearm I ever purchase that came with rust. Seriously.

"aippi" I love break cleaner its awesome at cleaning my M&P firearms since they are polymer I don't worry much…
"anti" I called Turners about sending it back they charge $45 for the service plus shipping and Insurance. I was like thanks I got a FedEx Account I can do that myself. Another winning customer service company.
Also I called Bain and Davis and Pete told me he could fix it but that for a new shotgun I should send it to Mossberg as he doesn't work for free and that should be fixed for free… Valid Point… Hence sending it back. Thanks again and after I get it back I will definitely update on Customer Service and if they fixed the issue and see if they replace the bolt while still functional it came with rust and the face was all beat to hell and the top got all gouged up during its first use which I am sure is because of the same issue. Want to see if they take care of this any try to make it right.Comment

"awiner" I called Mossberg again and this time a girl name Samantha Perez took my call and was awesome. She gave me a call tag and said that the last rep should have done the same since it was basically a new firearm. So things are looking up... "kdruff2" thanks.Comment

Wow, definitely something wrong there on a lot of levels. It looks like a prototype or something. I would send it back and demand a replacement.
I have a standard 930 SPX and it's been awesome, the only issue I've had in about 1500 rounds has been feeding a single oblong flattened shell. After a shotgun class last summer, it moved to the number one loaded and ready spot in my safe. It was the only auto in the class that didn't have issues. Other than discoloration of the gas rings, mine looks like new.sigpicComment

I had the same problem!!!!! When I called mossberg I told the lady "the barrel lug is leaving a deep scratch on the magazine tube when I put it together". Her response " what's a magazine tube???" I found an easy fix but not cheap. GET A BENELLI.Comment

"awiner" I figured as much since it didn't go anywhere else. Guessing something was going wrong with that part that is causing all the issues. The Shotgun is already on its way back along with a letter and photos to help them see the issue and that little split ring. Hopefully they get the issues resolved. The Customer Service Rep this morning made a big difference since everyone except you awesome Calgunners kept making me feel like it was my fault / issues. I know its my first shotgun but I know the basic operation of a firearm and them issues were not at all normal. I would be happy with a barrel change a new bolt and magazine spring. I like the Series # I had plus I would have to DROS and Wait 10 days etc if they replace it.
"SimonBirch" lol... Yeah I actually said that to myself during the 4 time breaking it down. I said to myself "All this to save 50%... aaarrrggghh... [As Barrel pops off]" lol
"MasterBlaster" Done its on its way. =D [For Free, I like Free]
"Webologist" It would be cool if it was a prototype if they repair it...
I'll update once Customer Service Repairs or calls or whatever. Lets hope that they take care of business. Customer Service is one of the most important things in my book. That's why most of my guns are S&W their Customer Service is awesome.Comment

Ok, Well had not heard from anyone over at Mossberg regarding the shotgun and since "SKULS" wanted an update I took the time to call. They shipped it back on Monday and it should arrive on Thursday. Will try to take it out this weekend and see if they resolved all the issues. Fingers Crossed!Comment

I just recently picked up a JM Pro 22" and have not gone out yet to fire it. I'm going into this experience with an open mind that it's function may or may not be 100%, but from what I've been reading, I might want to break it in with some stout loads. I'll definitely be cleaning it first and foremost.Comment

Man hope it works out for you! I was originally skeptical about purchasing this shotgun myself & it was between this & the Versamax. There are a lot of mixed reviews out there on this platform. I rolled the dice & went the cheaper route the JM 22" version. I did break this shotgun down for a good cleaning & lube when I got it home. I've had this shotgun for 2 months & havent got around to shoot it until yesterday. Let me just say this gun is well worth the $ if it's running right.
I put in 100 shells of winchester cheap bird #7,#8. Then went through 50 rounds of mixed slug & buck from Rio. Everything ran good. There were 2FTE's on the birdshot. The extractor ripped though 2 shells @ the base. Used a cleaning rod to push them back & continued.
As far as the Rio slug/buck I used, It was a mix of standard & low recoil on both. It did not hiccup on either load. Also very accurate from what I can tell it just went where ever I put that FO sight on. Recoil was very manageable to me. Pretty damn close to shooting my Benelli M4.
Anyways enough rambling hope this fix works out for you!Comment
