I want one to hunt with (pheasant, quail, chukar). Kind of boggled by what to get. Maybe you guys can help.

I'd like to be able to run factory loads through it (and some sort of non-lead alternative once the ban goes into full effect). I'd also like to keep it around or under $2,000 since this will be a field gun. Straight stock and double triggers would be nice. 16 gauge or maybe 20 gauge. Any thoughts of what I should be looking for (I assume a used gun is my best bet).

        Lefever Nitro Special.
Not as svelte as the earlier (and more pricey models) but fun nonetheless.

My colleague has 2 of those, a Stoeger coach gun and a Mossberger side-by-side. They tend to kick a lot, so if you use it for volume shooting (eg. 200+ rounds a day) you'll want to have a shooting vest that has a recoil pad on the shoulder.

I have a CZ Bobwhite. !6 gauge, two triggers, english stock, 26 inch tubes. It is exactly the gun I was looking for. And I got it for $400 a few years ago from CDNN. It is perfect for me for hunting quail and chukar.

I was looking at a CZ Bobwhite, then found this Stefano Fausti .410 DEA, cheap. Choked Full/Full, it patterns like a double barrel .22lr, real tight! Lightweight, and still light after packing it in the field all day. My favorite chukar buster now.

12ga side by sides will kick so just be aware of that. i have a century arms coach gun with rabbit ears. obviously not top of the line or a collectible by any means but it will get the job done and is realiable. you can get very very good deals on it at big5

1929 Austrian 16 ga SXS with 28" barrels. I haven't shot it since this morning. Double triggers, doll's head, fully engraved, barrels in great shape. Right handed stock with cheek pad. Scalloped boxlock ejector. Close to your price range. As best as can be figured out this was a presentation gun to the Ferlach guild (so the maker could be given "gunmaker" status). Fixed chokes IM and F. Will easily handle today's loads - lead, Nice shot, Hevi-shot Classic, but not steel. Weighs in at about 6# so it makes a great field gun.

Lovely! Are you selling it chokes are a bit tight (seems common for many older guns) but it's a very good looking gun.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm watching Gunbroker and hope something that looks good to me shows up at a decent price at some point. I'm being patient. The Lefever, BSS and a few others are things I'm looking at (SKB 100, V. Bernardelli, Miroku Daly, maybe a Abercrombie and Fitch Rizzini). I'd never think to look at a random Austrian gun just because I'd have no idea if it was a good shooter or not. Honestly I'd rather stay around $1000 (plus FFL and taxes) but would pay more to get a well fitted gun or one that looked the way I want (e.g. case coloring, straight or POW grip, etc.).
