        Its an easy fix.

        Read this post.

Took my 870 Tactical recently to the range and had no failures. Guess I was just lucky.

Both Remington and Mossberg have been cutting corners lately. It seems like both are cutting corners on each others strong point. Choose what you like or which ever is easier to fix for you.

I don't know how to post a thread so..

Search this thread "problems extracting / stuck shells in chamber"

and take a look at this link

To see full story, see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=235288 I think I may have found the issue. I was always looking "in" the chamber. Look at the surface just above the oval engraving. As that surface nears the chamber there are a lot of tool marks. Those tool marks grab the rim of the...

I would go with what aippi recommended. When a certified Remington Armorer who builds nothing but Remington 870 offers advice for free on your Remington 870 problem, especially when the solution cost very little or nothing, it makes sense to listen.

My parkerized 870P would choke on cheap Winchester loads, aippi recommended polishing the chamber with steel wool and a dowel.

I did it, and never had another failure to extract.

A knowledgeable 870 smith/armorer, who, btw, has been doing this for years, already noted it's a chamber, not an extractor, issue.

Imo, I'd try the steel wool around the brush thing before throwing parts at it.

Finally some answers???? From the begining you were told by a Remington factory Certified Armorer that the MIM extractor has nothing to do with the issue, yet you are buying a solid steel one thinking it is going to reslove your problem instead of the correct advice you were given. The Extractor that comes with it does not suck, there are a hundreds of them thousands of them on 870's doing just what they are susposed to to. Some others also gave you the solution and you ignor it so your problem is going to continure. We did not waste our time since I am sure others read it and will benifit from it since you will not.

This is the same guy who posted about the AR15 being overrated after he extensively reviewed it indoors at 25 yards for one session.

Not surprised he ignored the Remington armorers advice.

Mrgunsngear doesn't like the 870 much. The newer ones anyways.

Aippi, I want to thank you for this awesome advice. I have an 870 super magnum that's doing exactly what's being described in this forum. You bet when i get Home
tonight i will be checking out your advice and employing on that on this weapon to get it to function properly. Won't be able to take it out to the field for a couple weeks though so i will send follow up results later on.

Nothing wrong with installing the solid steel extractor in an Express. I do in all my builds because that is the part that comes in the P model and what my clients want. But I have never seen a MIM extractor fail in any way and many of my 870's have MIM extractors. They will not fair well in the 1100's so they come with solid steel extractors. And I do not recommend them in the 1100. Of course there is no MIM extractor for the 11-87.

As for MIM. I can bet everyone of you have read post where a guy says he got the Police model because he does not want MIM parts in his shotgun. So, you are reading a post from someone that does not know what he is talking about because their are MIM parts in every Remington Shotgun, every model.

If a guy would simply clean his weapon before he shoots it this would not be an issue. These guns leave the factory with preservative on the bare metal of the chamber and bore because they can sit in Distributor warehouses for many months and even up to a year. They then get bought by a gun shop and sit in their gun room or racks for months. This is bare stell and can rust if left that long. So when you take a new one out of the box and start shooting it that mess gums up in the pores of the chamber. Add cheap steel base shells and not racking with authority and you have a perfect storm for extraction issues. I use that rod and steel wool and every barrel that leaves my shop, wether new or just refinished and there have been no extractions issues with any AI&P Tactical shotgun. None.
