      Congrats on your purchase!
I agree with BR. He's on point! Buy ammo, shoot the gun, and pattern the gun with a couple different brands of ammo. Then continue shooting the gun. Maybe try some clay games.

Thanks. Bone stock 870 Wingmaster police trade ins. I took them both out yesterday for some range time and they run like tops. One upstairs, one downstairs, four in the tube, with buck and slugs in the velcro buttstock ammo carrier. Everything you need, and nothing you don't.

My 870 . wood ,18.5 and a 26 inch with tubes , all I want . Not going to sell this one . Made that mistake before . Bought a old aluminum trigger with a action job and a shoe . wipe it with oil . buy ammo and practice .

If a pistol grip stock is a must, the Spec Ops is pretty sweet. Adjustable LOP as well. Some HD 870's even come from Remington with them. You could probably find one in a local shop, shoulder the gun a few times to see if you like them.

Real men shoot real guns, if you want to turn that thing into a cartoon mess, hang a bunch of lights ,saddles and lite pipes all over it. Wonder why all the guys at the range are laughing?

Keep it simple. I can't stress this enough. Keep the field stock. Add a light/surefire forend if it's going to serve in a home defense role and maybe a side saddle. That's it. Light and simple.

                      Start with reliability:

                      1) polish chamber

                      2) good aluminum follower

                      3) extracter from police model

                      4) clean / lube

                      5) shoot

The basic 870 configurations are the most preferable. For my combat/HD 870, all it has is the 18.5" barrel, Mesa sidesaddle, Wilson +2, and basic Remington furniture.

Does it matter so much? Sometimes, a person has to go through all the bells, whistles, and cartoon mess to realize they don't need all that. The better attitude would be to strike up a conversation, get to know the guy, and offer constructive suggestions. Sitting off to the side snickering to your buddies is simply juvenile. Do what you want to your gun. Enjoy it.

As for real guns... even if it's a hot mess on the outside the internals are still the same. Load a shell, pull the trigger, and it goes BOOM. I am pretty sure that qualifies as a "real gun".

Question, why the aluminum follower? My old 870 Express never had a feed issue, and I shot hundreds of rounds of everything through it.

Congrats on the gun OP! And I agree with Bobby, just shoot it!

I have always liked The way a pistol grip feels so i have a choate stock on my HD mossy 500, but all you really need is ammo. Dont spend a ton of cash on stupid tacticool stuff. Just buy ammo and maybe a light if you need it.
