Clay Shooting and Chokes

New 1100 purchased for clays came with extended choke tube set. Any thoughts about flush chokes or if going to stick with extended tubes, has anyone tried ported choke tubes for clay shooting?

Stick in an IC, and forget about it.

Don't waste your money on ported chokes. The only thing they do is lighten your wallet.

I have both, extended chokes on my Benelli SuperSport and flush chokes on my Benelli M2. Stick with the extended choke, no reason to swap it out for flush ones for clay shooting.

My Benelli SuperSport has ported barrel and the M2 does not, however, there are not much differences I can tell in terms of recoil from firing #7.5 target loads (1 1/8oz and 1oz) on both. I wasn't paying attention to the barrel climb however as I was shooting singles only. Perhaps if you shoot doubles, the porting might help, but I suspect it'll be just money wasted.

Check in with those who shoot doubles in sporting clays and skeet, those require very quick recovery after the 1st shot, they might be able to tell if the porting on the choke or barrel helps.

Do pattern them on patterning board to make sure them shoot where you want

Bought a set once and two of the chokes shot about 24" low and right at 40 yards.

Is skeet choke just inbetween cylinder bore and improved choke?

Yes, Cylinder is .000 constriction, Skeet .005, IC .010, Lt Mod .015, Mod .020, IM .025, Lt Full .30, Full .035, Extra Full .045 ....

The only difference between ported and non-ported chokes is it makes cleaning the ported ones a pain in the rear because of all the holes. They get caked up with lots of grime and powder residue.

I didn't like how my factory Beretta optima chokes patterned, especially on the further shots. I bought a set of Muller U3s and U4s, tried them both, left the U3s in and haven't used anything else in months. I can still hit close and fast clays or far and high crows without having to worry or think about it. Just point and shoot, the gun will do its part.

Well. I did waste $95 on a briley modified choke. Shot 25 with it too. But shooting lousy now.
