which choke for hand launched clays?

I'm losing clays in the spread with improved cyl. The clays are out 40 yds before I can safely draw a bead on'm. Should I go full choke? Do you guys ever throw your own clays with a flinger? What choke do you use?

I would go modified and try with that. Full choke dependent on the maker can be pretty tight and make it much harder to hit.

40 yards and the thrower is next to or behind you? Something is wrong. You should be able to shoot them at 20 yards or closer. But, if a IC isn't working for you, try a Modified choke.

I would pattern your chokes with the loads you are shooting to see what your pattern is like at 35 to 40 yards.

Skeet, then nobody else gets a chance to break anything!
Hand thrown or the Outers mounted in a spare tire we would be almost standing next to the thrower, if it got to 20 I was doing something wrong.

Who the heck is throwing clays that fast to reach 40yds before you can get a shot off!?

Whoever it is, they should take up Olympic Discus

Maybe you should go where you can get on'm safely, period? Can you explain what you mean?

For hand thrown clays you should be using skeet or cylinder chokes and hitting them all at 20-25 yards.

They must be down range and ducking behind a tree. That's why it takes time to safely get shot off?

If you are sure you're shooting at 40 yards (bear in mind distance estimation is misleading with clays due to its small size and fast flying speed), try using a Modified choke.

Also, what loads are you using for your shotshell?

Big bear is right. Modified or improved modified at that range.

You have the right choke. Perhaps a better lead under the clay will give you more breaks.
