You can buy a Mossberg combo (field/security combo) from Davidsons (Gun Genie online).

In this combo, the field barrel is ported and comes with removable chokes (comes with 3 standard MB chokes, you can by others).

It will likely end up costing you a little more than Big 5, but the removable chokes make it worth a little more. Just go on Gallery of Guns, select the Mossberg 12ga and page down to the combo set above. If they are out of stock, you can use the Stock Watch feature and they will send you an email when they are in stock. When they are in stock and you go to buy it, they will have a number of FFL's in your area bid and you can select the best price. They will then ship it to that FFL and you get the gun as normal.

Registration of long guns will start the first of this year.

I think you meant 'security' model instead of 'tactical' model.
The security model comes with 8+1 shot which you will probably use more than the barrel swapping of the combo.

I would not get the combo. I don't think you can go hunting with the 28" barrel because your magazine capacity is too much at 5+1 (someone may confirm this or correct me on game allowed or something).

registration for long guns begins after the first of the year. This means that the specific model and serial number is recorded like with a handgun.

I have the combo shotgun from big 5 and it is a great shotgun. It comes with a wooden dowel that limits your magazine capacity so you can go hunting with it. The field barrel also gives you a good option if you want to shoot trap/skeet occasionally. The 5 round capacity is fine for me, i don't feel under gunned with 5 round of 12 gauge 00 buck for home defense.

Is it the best option for hunting/trap/home defense, probably not, but it does all 3 well enough for me. Its great to have a cheap shotgun i can get muddy and not care, or have a spare i can bring for trap when i have newbies with me, and then swap out a barrel and have it for HD

I personally find the security model too narrowly focused, I would never shoot it. But i also don't bring my shotguns to the range to shoot paper targets. They are more for trap, and then for HD and then hunting.
