    Maverick 88 20"

What's up Cal Gunners I was looking into some shotguns that were under 300 and saw the Maverick 88 which I really liked because it is very inexpensive and is basically the cheaper version of a Mossberg 500, but with the same reliability. What are your thoughts on this shotgun. Any suggestions?

I used to have one! I think it is very well built and is almost identical as the mossberg; other than the safety location and the receiver is not drilled for scope mount.
its a very good shotgun for home defense or everyday use.
The only reason i let it go is because i think the 20" barrel is abit too long for me and couldnt change to a longer barrel for sporting clays( i believe the 18" version could swap to a longer barrel due to the short mag cap)

Mav 88 with the 18" barrel is my HD shotgun.

Big 5 has sales on the Mossberg 500 all of the time for $300. Their latest ad has the 5 shot 500 with a 18.5" barrel & 28" barrel for $299.

Maverick 88 is a good shotgun. My buddy picked up a Mossberg 500 Persuader and added an adjustable stock. I picked up my Maverick 88 (7+1, 18" barrel) a short time later and added the Knox pistol grip/stock. I also recently replaced the forend with a Mossberg 500 tube/Hogue forend. The 88 is basically a 500 for less $$. I even prefer the safety (trigger vs tang) which works a lot better when using a pistol grip.

pic of my 88 (with warhammer and before i replaced the forend):

I just got the Mossberg 500 8shot for 290 at big 5 on monday. that was the black friday price. Big 5 is no longer carrying the Maverick apparently, they are switching over to carrying the H&R pardner(870 clone) which is 199 this week
