I have heard (and read) that CZ shotguns are GTG. I have no experience with them from what I've read or chatted with fellow enthusiasts... Check out some youtube reviews... When I read up on guns I always check out youtube as well and see what others in the field think. Welcome to calguns brother. God bless and good luck with your choice. Let us know (and post some pics) of what you decide to buy!

I started shooting trap for the first time this summer. Picked up a Redhead in August and shot my first perfect round from the 16 yard line last week. I couldn't be happier with My CZ.
Stop calling them Lawmakers. It only encourages them.

Hi. I've had my 912 since Spring. It's my favorite gun! Well, it's the gun I have the most fun with since it's been easy to find shotgun ammo during the panic. It's a solid value considering what you get. Comes with 5 chokes. The stock isn't beautiful but it's decent walnut. The only thing I don't like about it cosmetically are the pinstripes that go across the receiver. Pinstripes belong on cars from the early '90s!

I have probably over a thousand rounds through mine and with mostly Walmart value packs, it only had trouble cycling occasionally (1 FTE per box) in the first couple hundred rounds. Now it cycles any 1 1/8 oz and higher target loads or full power 00 buck with perfect reliability. One thing my gun won't cycle reliably is 1 oz bird loads (in my case Herter's Dove load 1 oz #8). You may have different results. On other shotgun forums, there are ppl with the 912 that cycle anything just fine. YMMV. For my gun, on a freshly cleaned gas system, it FTE's 1 oz shells maybe 1 outta 5. If you play trap with other ppl, FTE's are actually considered a GOOD thing!! Trigger pull is pretty heavy. I'm no clay expert but from what I've read this doesn't really matter when it comes to clay games...

The gun shoots pretty soft. Stock has a recoil pad built in. What else... comes with green fiber optic front sight. Gas piston system becomes a mess when dirty... I guess that's the only downside. The outside of the magazine tube/piston sysem is the only part of the gun that really gets dirty. The chamber, bolt, and barrel stay so clean I rarely clean those parts. It may not be a fancy Beretta it's a fraction of the price. They might be hard to find locally. I got mind thru Gallery of Guns. Just pick the cheapest dealer you're willing to drive to. Painless process at what I considered to be a fair price during the panic.

            Anyway, yup, I like mine!

They are awesome. Like most of the CZ firearms they are made exceptionally well. The Czechs pay close attention to detail and craftsmanship. Accuracy is amazing. I would not hesitate to get one.

Aren't CZ shotguns made in Turkey?

This is correct. CZ is merely the US importer. The shotguns are manufactured in Turkey by a company called Huglu.

I bought a Redhead Deluxe used off a fellow Calgunner back in August that I finally got to take out this past weekend at one of TheFeeder's clinics. The cast off stock makes the fit a night and day improvement over the Mossberg 500 I used at my first trip through the clinic. I couldn't be happier with the gun.

Will I buy a >=$3k Beretta or Browning someday? I sure hope so, but the CZ is going to be plenty of gun for me for a while.

I bought a Redhead Deluxe earlier this year. I posted about an issue I was having. This is from that thread:

Well I ran into an issue with my CZ Redhead recently. I've mostly been shooting trap, firing the bottom barrell way more than the top. Decided to shoot doubles the other day. First few stations went fine, but on the third station going for the second clay the top barrell failed to fire. It produced an audible click way weaker sounding than normal. Tried again and both barrells fired fine. However, the top barrel fail to fires became more frequent. Had one of the more experienced fellows take a look, and he said it sounded like the sear was not being pushed far enough to release the hammer.

I contacted CZ and explained what was happening. The person I talked to there said the same thing, selector block may not be pushing the sear far enough to release the hammer. They sent me a shipping label and I dropped it in the mail the other day. Since I have mainly been shooting trap singles, 90% of my shooting has been with the bottom barrel, kind of weird this would happen to the top barrel.

According to the serial #, mine was made this year. I know CZ had a common problem like this in the past, but I thought they fixed the issue. Still completely happy with the gun and can't wait to get it back. I just hope they replace whatever parts with something a little more durable.

I have had to send it in TWICE for the same thing. I'm not one to say "CZ's suck" because I have had issues, but I doubt I will ever be fully confident in the reliability of the gun. Am I happy with the gun? Yes. However, I'm pretty disappointed in the fact that I have had to send it in twice. If I had to do it over again, I would just buy a used Citori for a little more.

Check on ShotgunWorld.com, look for the "I love my Huglu" forum and read the posts by cdb1097. He's a meticulous record keeper. He has almost 30,000 rounds thru his Canvasback O/U and about 8000 rounds thru his 912.

The O/U has been flawless, the 912 had some hammer fatigue issue, which perhaps has been sorted out by CZ. The hammers would last about 2000rounds before breaking. The latest hammer in his 912 has lasted >3500rounds.

Overall, CZ shotguns are GTG and an excellent value. In this pricerange, I would also consider a Lanber. If you want a little less expensive, there's Baikal and Yidliz Russian O/U, but they are not as reliable and need a little more cleaning/polishing out of the box. The Baikal's in general have nice furniture. IMHO, I would avoid Stoeger or other shotguns made by Khan or other Turkish manufacturers. Huglu is the best of the bunch from Turkey (IMHO).

I just went thru this exercise and concluded to get a good used O/U I'd aim for > $900.

My wife owns a CZ 720. It is a light, handy and attractive gun. It has always functioned well.

The takedown is a little involved... it's been a few years so forgive the sketchiness on the details... I just recall it taking me a little time to get it back together after a full takedown cleaning.

It's a nice gun. Glad we got it.
