    re:shell catcher

I have a feeling you have the plastic type that snaps over the ejection port. They are gun specific.
Anyways-this is what I bought from Cabela's for about $20. It installs with two sided sticky tape so it is "permanent". The give you some extra tape.
One photo shows the stainless wire down in the non-catching position and the other photo shows it swiveled up so that it will catch the shell being ejected. You do not have to swing it down in order to load the next shell. Every once in awhile it lets one through so I just give the wire a gentle squeeze in order to narrow the opening.
If you really need one I'd recommend this one even though it is butt-ugly and "permanent".
    BTW-good shooting on the 25!

I've got same one. I'm using it right. And have no idea why it makes my gun jam!

          Designed one and tested

If you're still interested, I've designed a shell catcher for the Benelli SuperSport and the M2. I'm looking for interested shooters to test and give feedback. I will send one to you if you'd send me the feedback I'm looking for. I've tested it on the two above and it works fine, but I'd like more feedback to improve it. Please send me you mailing address and I will get it to you asap.

You should put up more information, maybe with pictures of the product and name of your business etc. If you're asking address of gun owners on a open forum, most will not give it to you. They will think that you're collecting info and casing their home so you can rob them of their guns, especially a rather expensive one like Benelli SuperSport or M2.

I bet you would feel differently if you kept having hulls bounce off your $10,000 shotgun.

I wonder if you complain when someone puts a door ding on your car.

I understand what you're saying, but for me specifically, I don't worry about stuff like that. I don't buy things I have to worry about damaging or getting cosmetic damage during its normal course of use.

If a $10,000 shotgun is too expensive for me (it is) for use in the trap field because it might get dinged, then I don't buy one. For me, a $2000 Benelli SuperSport is something I don't mind getting dinged or scratched, and it is what I use.

And for cars, I don't mind those either. I once let my colleague have my brand new Lexus (just a few weeks after I took delivery actually) for a week because I had to go on business trip to Europe. He put over 800 miles on it, parked my car on the streets and forgot to lock the car and someone stole my portable GPS. And oh, he didn't even bother to fill up the tank when he returned the car, which was a little rude but I guess some people are like that. I didn't even ask for compensation.

I don't buy things I have to baby and worry about when I use them.

It's not always about you. It's called common courtesy and unfortunately, a lot of our current culture does not recognize that.

I bet you are the guy that punches the gas instead of letting someone merge in front of you on the freeway.

Our culture also sometimes don't recognize common sense, which is, why would you bring a shotgun that you need to baby, to a public range knowing that there will be someone using a semi-auto and shells might hit you or your precious gun? Same thing with cars, why would you buy something you can't really afford and have to cry every time you get a stone chip or someone ding it with a shopping cart?

And on cars, no. I have drivers license from 3 different countries, covering both right and left hand drive cars (Australia, Singapore and US. I keep my Singapore and US license valid so that I can drive both types of cars). I have owned and driven cars in all 3 countries and I'm pretty sure I'm a much more polite and safe drivers than most. Because I have to adapt to different driving conditions and driver behavior, I'm always polite to other drivers and drive safely.

Let me get this straight...you are saying that people should not own nice things and enjoy them for their designated purpose and have the expectation that someone else may damage them whether intentional or not? I am grateful I have not experienced that attitude while out shooting clays. Most clay shooters I have shot with over the years are much nicer than that and also shoot much nicer guns than I have.

It isn't about something that is not affordable. It is about taking pride of ownership and caring about the things I spend my dollars on. I shouldn't have to worry about someone damaging my shotgun, car or anything else I own.

I extend common courtesy AND use common sense to have a shell catcher on my gun as I would feel terrible if I damaged someone else's shotgun, disturbed them during a tournament or even thrown hot brass at them. But then again, it isn't always about me.

Your driving credentials are impressive and I commend you for being a courteous driver, too bad that attitude doesn't apply to the clays fields.

I think everyone should be able to enjoy their clay shooting experience, irregardless of the price and type of their shotguns. However, put it this way, just because you have an expensive shotgun and is worried that shells ejected from mine will ding it, you now demand that I must use a shell catcher?

From my point of view, if you're so worried about shells and dings, then don't bring that shotgun to the field or go play something else. If you want to play with guns, dealing with ejected shells is a fact of life. Bring another one, or go to range where they don't allow or have rules that semi-autos/pumps MUST have shell catchers. I don't think there's one here in the bay area though, at least not the ones I know of.

Alternatively, bring your own squad to the trap or skeet field. That way you know that all shooters will use break actions, or your buddies will put on the shell catcher for you.

But if you go to a public field and want others to put on a shell catcher to protect your precious shotgun, I think you will get a lot of funny looks.

He's not demading that you use a shell catcher, he's just saying he uses one as a common courtesy to other shooters and it does not matter how expensive their guns are. Obviously you do not care about other shooters so this does not apply to you. Also, were talking about trap only, for skeet, shell catchers make it easier to keep hulls or on fields where you have to clean up hulls after you're done.

It is not about me or other semi-auto users not extending courtesy to other shooters (I promise, I'm a pretty nice and safe guy to shoot with on the trap field! ), but rather, my point is for those using break action types not be such a baby with their shotguns. Getting upset with shells hitting you or your gun while participating in a shooting sport is a little crazy.

Now if you reload and need to keep your shells, sure, the catcher is a good thing to have. For me I just pick up the shells after I'm done and throw them in the provided pail. Come on, how difficult can it be to pick up 25 (or a little more if there are previous left over) shells? In some places, like the Sunnyvale Rod & Gun club, they even have this magnetic thing you can use to pick up your shells as most of the cheap shells have metal case.
