I'm not really sure if it's a new design though.

The Turner's ad says so but there's nothing about it on the Ruger site.

Saw a TV "program"--actually a 30 minute whoring of the SG which included Ruger's Red Label program mangager--yesterday evening.

The design is the same...gun is made in America. Ruger went to a one-piece cnd'd receiver v. a two-piece. PM went on and on about how this lowered cost by eliminating hand-fitting.

Hand-fitting of metal-to-metal and metal-to-wood is what gives you a tight fitting gun that goes on forever, but does cost more labor wise.

If I'm spending a grand on an o/u, it's a lot different than getting a cheapo 870 or 500...I want to see perfect finish as I want a keeper/hander-downer for what I'm spending.

I just don't see that in a non-hand-fitted gun.

Finish wise, barrel looked like crap compared to a Citori or Silver Pigeon, let alone higher-priced guns.

Typical Ruger...clunky and not especially pretty, imo.

Not hardly, look at the fit, finish, and feel of both guns once the Rugers hit the stores.

Beyond that, "any good" is definitely an individual quality...you want an o/u that "fits" you...if it doesn't fit, misery will occur

I know two people who bought Red Labels and both have reliability issues.

I'll stick with my Citori.

...and I with Browning and Beretta...a LOT to be said about premium guns that are still hand made and have been for a LONG time. Check resale values for Ruger v. the other guys.

Is Ruger making these or are they having them made? Seems pretty cheap for "100% American made". Not quite sure what that means today either. 100% assembled with over seas parts? Or?????

Not a fan of automatic safeties.

I hope these turn out to be good shotguns, tho. I liked the feel of the old one, but couldn't bring myself to buy a discontinued gun.

Auto safeties are not an issue for a smith who's familiar with high-end o/u's.

As to "discontinued", I'd take a used Browning or Beretta gun that's been well cared for at a good price.

Ruger quality hasn't been up to snuff lately. I also worry that it's "redesigned" a latin term for cheaper.

If its a Citori or a Superposed its superior to any Ruger shotgun.. I like Rugers but Red Labels are inferior to both Browning and Beretta.. The Red Labels, in general, if you got one that worked, they don't have the long term durability you would find with a name brand over/under.. Personally, I couldn't spend my hard earned money on something that has the atrocious wood to metal fit that was found on the Red Labels...

Long-term durability...directly related to fit and finish...both related to experienced hand-fitting.

No way. Save your pennies and get a better OU like a Citori or 686.

The Rugers are fine guns and very durable. They are a bit chunky looking and I think that's why most shotgunners don't like them. I have seen many on the skeet fields and I think they are a good solid gun. At any where near 1100 bucks, they are a bargain. As others have siad, I'm not a fan of automatic safeties but other than that, I would buy one (if I didn't already have a nice O/U).
