12" LOP stock?

Is there really a big difference in the 12" LOP buttstock over the stock Mossberg buttstock? Thinking about changing out the stocks on my Berg...

I don't know how long the factory Mossberg stock is, but I put a Hogue 12" on one of my Remingtons and it made a huge difference.

The original walnut stock was almost 14" with the buttpad installed.

If I remember right my OEM stock is 13-14". i will remeasure tomorrow before ordering a LOP but just wanted to make sure that the reduction in length is worth it. Thanks

Depends on how you're shooting i guess. The shorter lop makes it easier for me to maneuver around stuff, and if you're facing the target dead on I don't have to stretch out that far esp with pump gun. The shorter reach makes it handier as well. With trap and skeet when you're at an angle to the target and swinging the gun not so much I guess.

A short LOP allows me to use a stance that is more natural to me.

Longer stocks force me to blade my torso, I prefer to be as square to the target as possible.

I don't like the square stace facing the target, it limits targets to a narrow lane. Targets at 9:00 or 2:00 o'clock are impossible for me to reach.

The 12 is still too short for me. Yes you can use it, but not as smoothly as a 13 incher. Worrying about smacking your hand into your face sucks...

My standard 500 stock was too long, so I got the 12" stock and felt that it was too short. I figured a 13" would be pretty good.

I've got both on a variety of my Mossberg's and have to say about the only major difference I have found is that the Aimpro 13" LOP stock has a more generous recoil pad.

The reason's I switched over from OEM is 1) Being a member on the larger side, read fattie, it helps shoulder the shotgun quicker and more comfortably. 2) I dont exactly have TRex arms, but I'm no knuckle dragger either.

Aimpro 13 inch is the way to go.

It all depends on how you feel when mounting the gun. A 12" LOP will give you a square stands on the target ( meaning ... you can have your gun straight in front of you at a 90 degree angle to your body) ... Some likes shooting like that.

But to me it is all about the same. When you mount the gun you are limited to how much you see by how you mount the gun anyways. Because your cheeks should be on the stock and not lifting your head to the target. The rest will all be how you "feel" shooting at the different angles the LOP allows. ( A longer LOP will angle the gun closer to your body then the shorter LOP will )

I personally likes shooting a longer LOP. My target guns are set at 14 1/2" LOP as that allows the gun to be angled closer to me. It is all personal preference IMHO!!

I have an Aimpro/Hogue 13 LOP on my Mossberg and for a long time I was really happy with it and felt that a 12" was probably too short. I then took a chance and bought a Hogue 12" for my recently acquired 870 and surprisingly I like it that much more. I think I will be putting one on my 590A1 too.

I honestly feel like if you go with a 13" then you'll always wonder about the feel of a 12" but less likely the other way around. Unless the gun is not a tacticool/HD/zombie gun. If you are planning to shoot a lot with thick clothing and/or body armor then the decision becomes a no-brainer IMO.

My 13" stock feels like how it should have come from the factory. The 12" short stock really helps with maneuverability and squared up shooting.
