OP
I'm a little confused here. We will recommend based on your intended purpose.
Since I don't know what that purpose is, I can't recommend anything within your budget. If you just want to play cowboy from time to time, I'm sure anything will do. If you want a good shooter and really want to enjoy it then triple your budget and wait.
There is not much more satisfying in the gun world than a great fitting, quality double (O/U or SBS). If you bird hunt or shoot trap/skeet, you will not go back to a semi or pump. Just be prepaired to spend some more money."The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Something about western guns appeals to me. I guess just because its in my price range and I've already owned a pump action before and wanted something new. Occasional shooting and home defense would be its purposes I guess, although I would probably grab my glock first anyway.Comment

Lots of cowboy action shooters use the Stoeger. Its affordable and reliable, especially with a bit of internal clean up. There are plenty of much nicer SxS but if your gonna beat the snot out of it why overspend? It all depends on what its for and what you're willing to spend.Comment

The Homestead article for slicking up a Stoeger is a good starting point for tricking out the coach gun . You can make a handy tool for removing the latch lever spring out of a fork with the 4 tines bent over @ 90 degrees and the outer 2 tines cut off . If you hone the chambers remove the extractor first and hone the chambers until spent shells fall out when the barrels are pointed up . Then reinstall the extractor to see if you have to remove metal from it where the shell rim brass may be hanging up preventing the shell(s) from falling out freely . I used a 1/2" or 9/16" deep socket with some fine emory paper to remove material from the radiused part of the extractor that makes contact with the shotshells .Comment
