Recommend me a side-by-side double barrel

In the market for a double barrel, because why not

Prefer if it was a modern model and has an 18.5" barrel and not too expensive.
Maybe some ideas for >$1000 and some for >$500? Thanks!

Big 5 usually carries the coach gun and there's a coupon going on right now.
I don't know anything about side by side though. If you want a cheap over under the mavericks usually go on sale at big 5 for $339

Can't go wrong with the Stoeger. 20" barrels. What's an inch and a half?

I recently got a few goodies to go with it, including a field hockey bag. I'll have to take more pictures.

Don't get the cheap hammered double they have at Big 5, I checked one out and it feels flimsy, especially the hammers.

Also get a double-trigger, the single is a little more complicated and if it fails you're out both barrels.

Plus you can squeeze off both triggers and go for the big BOOM

I don't think so. Mine has a 20" barrel and I cant see where the extra 1 1/2" hurts any thing.

20" is the shortest, why does it have to be 18.5?

Just curious. Had a 20" and wanted to try something shorter considering it doesn't affect the capacity like it does on a tube fed shotgun.

OIC. I find the 20" to be quite handy. You should go down to a gun shop and check a few different ones out, whatever they got in stock, which may not be much. I picked up my boom stick at Big 5 when it was on sale.

Bear in mind it will probably need a little work, the grease they use is thick and my release spring was pretty strong. I took mine almost completely apart and cleaned out out really well. This of course goes for any gun, but it went from being a little stiff to break to being pretty easy. I also cut off a couple of turns on the break release spring and trimmed off the rod that also activates the auto safety. The manual still works. I will probably hone the chambers soon as well, so the shells just drop out when I tip up the barrel.

And it fits perfectly in a field hockey bag from STX. Buttstock shell holder with 8 shells included.

But you should be able to do that with any double under 37-38" overall length.

Instead of bobbling the barrels another 1 1/2" and you still needed to shave another inch or so off, you could contact Stoeger about ordering a youth length stock.

So if your barrel is 20" the Coach Gun would be 4" shorter.
Meant to put my Mossberg has a 18" barrel.
