    M4 or not?

I'm not a major shotgun shooter but with two 556 ARs, 1 308 AR, two handguns in the arsenal, I have on really crappy shotgun.

I have a chance to pick up a Benelli M4 for a good price for a PPT deal. I need help with a push off the fence.

If its a good deal go for it. I've played with a few m4's here and there. They're cool and all but I still prefer my box fed magazine shotguns over the m4.

Spare parts are Xpen$ive. Aftermarket can be just as pricey if your talking about FFT or Carrier Comp.

The M4 has a wide range of aftermarket parts just like the Saiga, 870, 500, 590, M2, M1, 1100, etc...

If it is a good deal, go for it.

Yeah, why not. You can always sell it with a minimal loss if you buy it a good price.

If the M4 is less than $1500-$1700 than it's a decent deal... check Gunbroker closed auction prices...

I have a Benelli M1 - it serves it's HD purpose for $800, not ideal for skeet/trap shooting though, but it's doable.

I think I can get it, virtually new from a private local seller for @ 1600. No tax or shipping. Only dros fee. GB auctions are running around 1700 to 2000 which would be in addition to shipping, tax, transfer and dros. no bueno.

So $1635 out the door, decent deal...

I guess then it depends on what you're using it for. The 18" barrel is a lil short for skeet/trap, but I've done ok with it. But for HD, I don't think there's a better shotgun than the M4.

You could get a escort mpa and accessories from kings armory for a third of that.

Yeah I handled one the other day and immediately thought about what I could sell to pay for it...it's a really cool shotgun and reliable with all types of shotgun shells from what I understand but in the end it came down to necessity for me.

I've already got a nice Beretta semi-auto which I use for trap...I could take out an M4 to the clay range but it wouldn't get me as good as a score as my Beretta for sure - so when else would I shoot it? The target range by my place only allows slugs at 50 yards so taking it out often seems like a pricey toy to have that wouldn't be taken out as often...to me I guess the M4 would be an easy SHTF weapon but once one gets into the realm of semi-autos, the reality of replacement parts rears its ugly head.

IMHO, think about what you want to use it for...for that price you can get a nice semi-auto for clay shooting and still have leftover money for ammo AND another gun

I'd get something with a longer barrel and shoot some clays. Have you ever shot trap? I assume so with your collection. But if not, it's so much fun!

Well, just started getting in to clay shooting and my wife and I are probably going to do it more often. I know the M4 isn't the best choice for clay.

I already have a tactical pump shotgun that I almost never shoot at a range due to cost. I think it's cool so it's probably just the "gotta have it" bug.

Saiga 12 is great..... as long as it's not the CA neutered version.
