    sub gauge insert tube set

    Has anyone tried this?

I've been looking at some over/under's chambered in 28 gauge and .410. Then I realized last night that I can just get the tube sets for one of my 12 gauge's. Just wondering if anyone has tried this. Pro's and Con's, which brands?

    Thanks in advance!

Briley's work GREAT. Used to own a full set that I ran in a 26" Citori. Shot four-gun skeet events with it. I'll be investing in a new set here pretty quick.

What brand and model O/U are you considering putting them in?

Thanks all for the info. I was looking at Briley last night. Some have Kolar made tubes. don't know how good they are.

            Captain,

I've got a Beretta DT10 skeet in 28-in that I'm thinking of putting the tubes in.

            Thanks!

I have both Briley and Kolar tubes. They both work great.

I would recommend getting the full set of 20/28/410. This way if you ever get into Skeet competitions you are already set up for it. Also make sure you get the ones with changeable choke tubes in the sub-tubes!

              Have fun and good luck!!

I asked because they're not really worth putting in the low end o/u's. Bjl333 is giving you good advice.

I've had good luck with ChamberMates by Seminole Gunworks. They don't add much weight to the gun, and they're easy to transport.

I shoot Briley's also, but Kolar is exceptionally well made too.

You will need to contact Briley to see which set will work for your shotgun, they are not all the same. The barrel length and even the extended chokes you already have enter into the tubes available that you will need.

Normally they come with changeable chokes, but ship with skeet only unless you order different.

Never heard much good about the short insert tubes, but I have also never tried them myself, so I can't really say.

Pros: You use the same shotgun for all gauges/bores, so there is no adjustments to be made for fit. Same sight picture for all. Once you shoot the smaller gauges, it will be all you wanna shoot, so you'll have to reload for 28 and 410 as they are WAY expensive buying retail. (So, you will become a reloader, I call that a 'Pro'.)

Cons: They will make your gun a little barrel heavy, although they are light, but I have found that this improves swing....so it could be a 'Pro'. They are expensive initially, prolly in the $1500 neighborhood IIRC.

I have shoot mine since 2005 without issue and prolly have better than 10K of each 28/410 through those tubes. They work rather well. Would not own a double without them. Briley also has a very good warranty as does Kolar.

I shot with a guy on my squad in the Zone or State Championship (I forgot) back around '08-'09 and he was having lots of ejection problems with these. I remember him telling me he did not have problems in the beginning but the more he shot the more problems they gave him. He was using them in all his comp shoots. Just a FYI ....

                        all,

thank you very much for detailed information. I've been shooting 20 gauge in sporting clays for a while and I love it. Looking forward to shoot 28 gauge and .410 in sporting clays. Was thinking about selling my DT10 skeet to get a Beretta 687 combo set with 28 gauge and .410 barrels (both in 30-in). The problem is that I had several 687's and none of them fit me well.

For the insert tubes, I was worrying if they'll damage the gun. However, I haven't read anyone mentioning it here or other forums.

Now I'll definitely get the insert tube set for all 3 gauges. Thanks again for all your help.
