    Anyone shoot 16 gauge anymore?

My dad gave me an original 1950's model Ithica 16ga, modified choke, pump gun for my 14th birthday. It was the one he hunted pheasant and quail with as a young man back in the early 50's. Sad to say I don't hunt birds as much as I used to, but I over the years I've found this to be a great dove and pheasant gun. Shells are getting harder to find, but occasionally I see them on the shelves at Kmart and even Bass Pro and buy a case now and then when they're available.

Yeah, a 12ga with lighter bird loads does what this one does and admittedly, it's not that good for ducks and is lousy for geese because of it's lack of reach. I guess I'm partial to this gun for nostalgic reasons.

Anyone still shoot 16ga much? Someone does, else shells would be impossible to find.

Been shooting 16 gauge since I was 14 and was Given grandpas 870 wing master. Shot a lot of ducks, geese, dove and quail with it. Have since acquired another 870, an ithaca and a savage. I load my own since shells are hard to find. Love the gauge. Does everything I need it to do.

Proud member of the 16 gauge society here.

Big enough to do what I want, small enough to generally feel better than a 12. My 16 follows me out on nice duck hunting days and, if I can swing it, will come out for some snipe this year. It is my favorite gauge/gun(s), though the 12s see plenty of use still.

Found some 16 Ga at Walmart about a month ago. Bought the limit. Usually have to get it at Big 5.

Some not many. Most either shoot 12/20. But Like above you can still find a few guys that run 16s

I'm a part of the 16 club as well. I don't shoot it much, though. It's a beautiful Ithaca SxS that was handed down to me from my grandfather. Love it.

I try and pick up 16ga shells when I see them. Few and far between at the LGS. You can find them at the bigger stores, though - Cabelas, Bass Pro.

Cheddite makes new component hulls and Ballistic products sells components for lead and steel shot reloading for the 16.. there are a lot of guns out there still for this mostly obsolete gauge.

There is also a TON of load data, from heavy non-tox duck and goose loads to powder puff fun loads.

Much under appreciated gauge, if i had one I would simply plan on reloading my own shells, like i do for the 410 which are hard to find sometimes and pricey

I shoot my 1929 Austrian presentation 16 ga regularly. I bought a box of shells two years ago when I forgot to bring some from home. I reload.

I have a 1948 plain Jane Winchester model 12 in 16 ga I don't have a clue as to when it was shot last. Have thought about turning it into a 20 ga if I could locate the parts, but until then its just a safe queen.

I could relieve you of that burdensome 16 gauge model 12
Ammo is not hard to find. B&P shells will ship, Cabelas usually has some in stock and can ship. Remington Game Loads are pretty standard and relatively inexpensive.

I'll never shoot this shotgun again, I've taken a fair share of birds & bunnies with it, but could let it go. To bad your not closer could do a FTF.

I have a Belgian made browning sweet 16 that I got a couple of months ago from a friends grandfather and have yet to use it but reading this thread has given me an "itch" to take it out on a small game hunt soon...

I own a Ithaca M37 16 Gauge from 1950. Solid Rib, 28 Inch Full Choke Barrel.

Absolutely love 16 Gauge and don't mind the scarcity of ammunition. I have seen 16 Gauge at Walmart, Turners, and Bass Pro Shops. Sometimes it is cheaper than the equivalent 12 Gauge shells...

EDIT: For those of you interested, there is a 16 Gauge Forum (16 Gauge Society). Lots of cool info on that site.
