Idiot's guide to molding slugs from birdshot?

I've read you can use the Lee Precision 1oz Slug Mold to mold a slug from birdshot that will fit back into the original shell and wad.

I've never molded anything from molten metal.

Can you suggest a good soup-to-nuts idiot's guide to the process of doing this?

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

That is one option. Another popular option is using wheel weights.

I personally bought a cheap cooking pot, a inexpensive wooden handle laddle, and a camping stove. Went to Home Depot, picked up a crap ton of sawdust for flux and you ready to go for the most part.

be careful with wheel weights..many are zinc and just a lil bit of zinc will ruin your lead and pot...the only way to flux it out is with sulphur...yeah not good

wax is a great flux too (not for zinc)

      you just need carbon

and no you cant always use the same wad...many wads have ridges and this will bulge the shell after you put a slug in

you have use LEAD wheel weights, not just any.

I have a lee 10 pound pot. I either buy lead or cut open some birdshot shells. melt it, flux it, scrape it, pour it, and dump it into water with a rag on the bottom. and you have your slug.

water dropping will result in a harder slug...i drop mine onto a wet towel so they cool slower...not a big issue really unless you accidently shoot out of a choked barrel

This as lead shot costs significantly more than just lead or lead wheel weights.

Lead Wheel Weights can often be found at tire shops or anywhere where they balance wheels. Auto shops often dispose of them.
