    Training Ammo

Is there such a thing as training ammo for shotguns, that shows a trail of where the shot goes, so I can see which way I need to correct my aim?

I'm shooting clays (should I say shooting *at* clays since I miss most of the time), and it would be great if I could see whether I am aiming too high, too far right, etc.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hopefully someone will come along with the name of them, but there is a company that recently started making shells with a brightly colored wad so that you could see it...I've never seen any reports on how good they are or how well it works though.

Yeah, but the wads don't fly straight.

Winchester AA TrAAcker shells- available in orange or black-

There's a thread on trapshooters and I think one on shotgunworld that outline some first hand experience with them-

I believe fiocchi also had something along the lines of an illuminated shotshell (but not a tracer)

I was wondering the same thing. Would be nice huh?

At the SoCal clinic they use a lead meter. You sight the meter and then take your stance, then use that on your target. It works as long as your posture and mount are correct. Posture and mount are everything, the hits come later(for me anyway).

            Where do you find them?

                ><

As Rey said they are Wicherster Trackers.

I will share some personal experiance with the shells. The shells had a negative learning lesson. In teaching a student I found that the student would consantly raise their head off the stock to get a better view of the wad. Second after seeing that they were behind the clay.....start to measure the leads and take there foucus off the clay.

As instructors we battle to break those two bad habits......Tracker shells just make the task harder.

If you have not learned the funtimentals of wing shooting.....learning them will serve you far better then using this type of ammo.

First, pattern your shotgun at 20 to 30 yards. Know how big and/or dense your shot pattern is and where it's the most concentrated. Experiment with different chokes, that's what their there for. If you're trying to down clays with a fixed cylinder bore choke....ya gotta hit quickly or they'll outta range.
If you don't know your patterning information you can see all the wads you want and it won't fix your problem.
