I have to agree with some of the previous posters here.... if you already have a 590A1, keep it. It's pretty over-built and heavy but it's damn near indestructible.

If you absolutely can't stand the weight, then you might want to go with a 20 gauge 500 instead... in 18.5" barrel.

You best hit the gym LOL jk. I have a 590a1 and it isn't that heavy but then again I do workout pretty often....
Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...

So yeah the 590 is a great gun. I don't really see a great reason to make a switch, but if you must, wither one is a good choice.
For me the 870/500 debate comes down to your preference on the control positions. I have and like both. Personally, I'm not a fan of the where the Mossy safety, or the Remington slide release is placed. A bit of advice though, the Mossberg controls are horrible with a pistol grip...go with a 870 if that's the setup you plan to run.

Also I'd avoid a sling for HD, unless you need it for a training course, and then just get something very simple.

I have a 590a1. Agree is heavy compared to the 870. But its built to last.

My friend just got a 870 tactical at rifle gear a few weeks ago. He paid just under 400$ befor dros and tax. It's nice and light. But has the typical extracting issues that the 870s are known for (shells barley extract. When they do extract they just get pulled from the barrel and flop around in the chamber. He has to tilt the gun sideways to physically make them fall to the ground. Seems to be the norm these days since I read about that issue way too much then I would like.

500 over the 870 due to the slide release being in front of the trigger guard on the Remington vs. the rear on the Mossberg. To release and then cycle the pump on the Mossberg requires less hand movement with your shooting hand.

I "may" have both the 500 mariner and 870 mariner, and I "may" prefer the 500 by a significant margin.
"Tactical" is a mindset, not an equipment list.
