I know that Saiga 12s are semi-automatic shotguns and all but they are gas-actuated so my question is does the gas-action soak up some of the recoil? Or do they feel like pump guns when you fire them? Because I know that Inertia-operated shotguns usually have less recoil than pump-actions.

Saiga 12s, light recoil?

My Benelli M4 is gas operated and the recoil is very minimal especially compared to 12 guage pumps, so although it is obviously a Saiga, Im going to assume recoil wont be much of an issue. Just dont expect more than 5 consecutive shots of 3 inch magnum slugs to be so nice on the shoulder!

There were several flavors to choose from, regular, hot cinnamon, or bacon. Im a man of danger so I chose Hot cinnamon to use with my bump fire buttstock.Comment

recoil is not a simple matter of "how much". you can't quantify it by saying, for instance, a benelli m1s90 is 55 recoil points vs a rem 870 is 62 recoil points.
stock design, weight of gun, grip, grip angle, ammunition, sights, and even the butt end of the stock where it goes into your shoulder all play a role.
my benelli m1s90 doesn't recoil too badly - certainly nothing that I can't handle from having shot mosins and mausers extensively. but because of the angle of the stock's top edge, i get a lot of zygomatic arch slam, leaving me with a facial bruise.
eventually i changed the stock and the way I hold my gun. now it is no longer a factor.Entreprise Arms - FFL 07 manufacturer of CA-Legal FAL type rifles in Baldwin Park, CA.

I have shot one with a standard AK poly stock on it. I shot 2-3/4 inch 5 shot, 00 buck, and 1 oz slugs.
It definitely has recoil. The slugs did my should in and I still have a nice bruise still from over a week ago. The only other shotgun I can compare it too is my 870 20ga with youth stock. Way more recoil than that.Comment

Yes, the Saiga has less felt recoil than a pump action. Perhaps the recoil energy itself is no different, but the impulse may be delayed and redirected to a degree due to the action. However, rapid firing slugs will definitely hurt after a while.Comment

I've never fired a benelli, but the S-12 I was doing double-taps with using standard Winchester 2-3/4", 00 buck seemed to have less recoil than my 62 point 870 Police Magnum firing Federal low-recoil 2-3/4", 00 buck. These were with standard, non-modified buttstocks.
On the other hand, my bro seemed to think it had more of a kick than his 1187. Of course he is a wus.
In my opinion, the S12 is 52 recoil points compared to my 870P's 62 recoil points.
Of course, YMMV.sigpic
