Best general purpose 500 barrel mfg?

Since my Maverick 88 takes Mossberg 500 barrels, I'd like to pick up a longer barrel with choke threads for skeet/clays/trap/etc...

I could just order one from Mossberg, but is there another manufacturer I should look into?

Also, is there a place I could look that might have a used barrel for sale? I've seen used guns for sale all over, but not so much a-la-carte barrels.

Keep in mind that with mossberg 500 / mav 88 barrels, they're designed to fit a specific length of magazine tube.

For example, you can't put the standard 28" barrel meant for the standard 6 shot tube on a mav 88 that came with a 20" barrel and 8 shot tube.

Mine came with the 6 shot tube and the 18.5" barrel, though, so I should be good to go as far as selection.

There is a guy selling a new in box MB500 combo, defense length and field length barrel on the for sale thread here.

Maybe pick that up and sell your defense only gun, which here on Calguns ironically may sell faster than a combo setup. You might net out a pretty small amount for that extra barrel.

I have seen the longer barrels from the combos on craigslist from time to time, the last one had an asking price of $125. Worth looking.

They use screw in chokes (the field barrel, the long one). Not sure if the separate barrels come with them or you have to buy the chokes separately, but the combo kits come with cylinder, modified and full and that cheap stamped piece of sheet metal wrench.
