    No advantage

Years ago I bought the Cruiser model Mossberg 500. That's the short model with only a pistol grip and ventilated heat shield. The first round or two I shot out of the gun, the heat shield popped off. To me, a heat shield is totally worthless.

      Congrats OP,

A light, a sling & something to give you some extra ammo on the gun. Nothing else is really needed imo. Simple and slick.

LOL yeah that's gonna end well the first time something snags it right:?

As for the OP really the only thing you need is a UTG el-338 weapons light. You may also need a shorter forend to add a sidesaddle I use a Hogue. The collapsible is probably better than anything you're gonna add for under $200. Anything else is just going to be tacticoolusless.

Just a curious question to add onto this thread. I have just recently purchased the 500 Blackwater cruiser myself, but it didn't come with any carrying case. I am curious if any of you know where to buy the water resistant/floating carrying tube for the MB 500 BW cruiser? I can't seem to find them available by themselves. Any help or guidance would be appreciative. I appreciate all of you and the information your sharing on this thread. Already have a folding stock and a couple other small items to add to the gal on order. I purchased this for a HD especially for my wife. She can't load a semi, due to some arthritis in her hands, but can easily load this. Plus, the sound of a 12 ga being loaded always makes the unwanted think twice.

Also, I need a nice laser/strobe tac light that I can use on my SA XD 9mm 5" and Kimber .45, and want something that will keep its worth and stand up to range shooting as well. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. There too many on the market and can't make heads from tails....

Thanks to my Calgun brothers and sisters.....

They are not available individually. You can find them occasionally here and gunbroker.

+1 on the velcro side saddle. You can trim the part that stays on the gun with scissors and a paper hole punch so it fits perfectly and does not cover anything. I only put 4-shell strips on it so didn't need much velcro to hold them. Could not make it detach by accident or snag on anything when the shell strip was off. I bought thru 3GunGear and thought they were pricey but excellent quality. Would not pay additional for a "custom fit" velcro piece since the one I trimmed myself in 5 minutes fit better.

Consider ordering a metal enhanced (raised) safety button to keep in your kit in case the plastic one breaks - if you can get it shipped free with something else it's under $15.

Can't think of one. I'd wager that it'd be harder to rip the velcro side saddle off, because it would give a little under pressure, whereas your plastic Tac-Star would just pop off. I know, I have one of those plastic Tac-Stars on my FNH SLP Tactical before I knew better.
I agree. Heavy duty Velcro is stronger than the ones you use on your shoes. Heck the ones in my camera bag can easily support 10-15lbs of weight.

For home defense, a light is a must. I might be going against the grain here, but I like my heat shield. It came with my Mossberg from the factory, and it has saved my hand once or twice from getting burned. Granted your barrel isn't going to heat up enough after shooting a bad guy a couple of times, but if you are out in the desert busting clays with your buddies, it heats up pretty darn fast. And I also like the knoxx stocks, especially the pistol grip only. I can shoot a 3 inch magnum slug one handed no problem, and I am a skinny guy.

I wouldn't go crazy with stuff though. Just the bare minimum, and go from there. If your stock already has a shell holder, I wouldn't bother with a side saddle. And I really wouldn't bother getting any kind of forward pistol grip or AFG, you'll see what I mean the moment you install it and racked it a few times.

                    Here's my shotguns.

oh that's gonna leave a mark

LOL just a little teasing I know it's just a straight pistol grip and not a knoxx. I don't think I would want to shoot a 3" slug one handed though.

HA! I have done that once or twice. Pistol grip only guns require a bit of training, and you can't hold it that close to your face. I have been practicing shooting mine from the hip, and I am becoming a dangerous man with it. To be honest, the only round I have encountered that I don't want to shoot one handed is a Remington 000 buck magnum. For some reason that thing really, REALLY, kicks like a mule. (I haven't actually been kicked by a mule though.)

Great photo of your shotguns. I am going to look at several of the items you mention for my own Mossberg Blackwater 500 that I purchased a while back for HD.
