Big 5 specials = seconds/rejects?

Big5 sometimes have different models that aren't available elsewhere.
Chain stores such as Costco and Wal-mart have different models of laptops, PCs, and LCDs all the time.
I don’t understand why people think they are being cheated. Usually only with Wal-mart. The model number is different and at a lower price. WTF?
Mossberg and Remington do not make special lower quality guns that will break after one shot.======Comment

i'll say that big five does end up with some crappy surplus guns
because when they get in a batch people pick out the best ones and leave the crap eventually the crap just sits there big 5 doesnt order more since they have some all ready
but as to new guns they get the same ones the distributors ship to everybody else they dont have a walmart/big 5 pile that has been run over by forklifts
or even more conspiratorial ones the factory made lousy just for the discount gun storesComment

Yep, the Big 5's discount rifles often have, say, plain birch stocks, without the pistol grip or checkering, or with pressed checkering instead of cut, or whatever. Not as attractive, just as functional. If you want inexpensive, they're hard to beat. Their $325 Marlin 1894 works just as well as Reed's $500 Marlin 1894.
Their milsurp is a different matter - it's a mixed bag, and you need to know what you're looking at, but that's the same for anyone who sells less expensive milsurp rifles.
If you want a car simile, it's like buying a Taurus with vinyl seats instead of cloth or leather.sigpic

My 10/22 I bought works just fine. So does my Mossberg 500A.sigpic
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

I hear that crap all the time btu I purchased a Mossberg 500 from Big 5 and my buddy got one from a gun store. Looked them over they look the same shoot the same and feel the same. My winchester model 70 was from walmart ( back when wally used to sell guns here in cali) and it shot no differently than my buddys winchester model 70. The only difference was mine was a synthetic stock his was wood stock. Sure they may use some cheaper stocks or blemished wood stocks but the internals are the same.
