I bought an extended rifled choke tube for my Rem870Exp and it works great. I also buy those Federal low-recoil slugs by the case, they are easy to shoot all day, and I am surprised by the accuracy @<50yrds. But my fave slug is the 3" coming out at 1760fps, that is boom city. My favorite sabot is the Hornady 300-grainer, that thing does serious damage downrange.

Maybe someone can make a simple chart or listing of what is compatible with what. For instance, smoothbore can shoot smooth and rifled slugs. And then with which chokes. Etc.

Nope, You shoot smooth bullets in (rifled) rifle and pistol barrels.

I have 00 buck loaded into my shotgun. I don't know if I would want to be shooting slugs into my house.

Don't worry, they'd probably be going out!

It doesn't look like they're as bad at over-penetration as handguns over at Box of Truth, but they are worse than buckshot.

But for stopping power, I don't think a slug could be beat.

On every box of slugs/rifled sluggs/sabots there should be the words FOR RIFLED BARRELL or FOR SMOOTH BORE. Ask the store salesperson for advice. Don't be surprised if the salespeople are uninformed.

But I would suggest improved cilynder or stove pipe for sabots and sluggs. Buy proper screw it chokes for your gun.

I suggest sabots with a large hollow point or hydro shock for small deer for HD - they also usually have a 1/2 oz hardened rear section for penetration.

If you are looking for a slug for home defense then you can shoot anything that is the proper gauge. You could fill a shell with rocks at the distance you are shooting it won't matter.

Rifled slugs in a smooth bore barrel. As far as chokes go I use IC or Mod. I've seen many people shoot slugs from a barrel with a full choke and no adverse effects. I've seen so many in fact I wouldn't have a problem doing it myself.
Sabot slugs from a rifled barrel should have less drop at distance than a once ounce slug. I don't know how much energy they will have. They go faster but weigh less.
A one ounce slug at 1600 fps is the magic bullet. They work well shooting through cars and paroleing the guy to Jesus, and in a 14" barrel no less.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
