Agree that the M4 is the ultimate in tactical shotguns. It's not versatile at all because its sole mission is to destroy. If that's what you want, then the M4 is for you. But, if you've got a HD shotgun already, you've got to ask yourself if you need another one at $1,800. The answer of course depends on the individual.

If you want versatility, try something with a longer barrel. I have a M2 and my buddy has an M4. Even though his M4 is a sexy beast, and gets admired all the time at the range, that's pretty much the only time he can use it (it's only 18.5" long so won't be allowed for skeet or clay shooting at most places). And folks who shoot 3-gun or sporting clays will just chuckle because, although it's an awesome "go to war" shotgun, it's not the gun that would, or could be, used in sport shooting.

Dont own either one of those but id say get the M4 if you have the money but 930 seems more reasonable

How about a classic Remington 1100? I've had mine for almost 20 years and it has been reliable in trap and 3-gun shooting, as well as recreational shoot-em-up trips to the AZ desert when I was in Yuma. The shotgun isn't all tactical and won't make you feel like a hardcore door-breaching operator, but it's reliable, accurate, and works well for your intended uses.

The benelli m2 field with the 21" barrel is a nice all around shotgun. Mine cycles anything I feed it. I can use it for birds or clays, and with the simple addition of a 40 dollar mag tube, I can get it to hold 9 rounds. I also have the m4.....it definitely wins the cool factor, but if you are looking for well rounded and reliable for about 700 bucks less....the m2 is the way to go.
I'm sort of a minimalist, so I don't hang all sorts of lasers and quad rails and optics on a gun that I might shoot 20 yards, but the only thing I hear you need to consider with the m2 is that if you do try to hang tons of stuff on it, the recoil operated inertia system can start to go haywire and not be as reliable

I Love my 930spx and recommend it to anyone that whats an autoloader. My cousin has saiga 12 that shoots very well but I don't like the idea of having bullet buttons On 12 gauges. I have a mka1919 also I like the mossberg the best

I saw a few of those after I got my Benelli Supernova and sort of kicked myself. Great price for a semi and have a lot of features that are identical to the Supernova. I think the stock is a version of Mesa Tactical's Ubino. There are other Turkish brands (like Tristar Raptor ATAC @ Turners) that are nearly identical except for some minor cosmetic differences, all for about the same price. The threads on the magazine tube is supposedly identical to the Benelli Nova/Supernova, so you can add more capacity with extensions.

A Benelli M4 is the way to go if you're looking for "the best". If you're looking for "best value" though, it's the Mossberg 930. It's basically a matter of how much do you want to spend. Do you absolutely need the Lamborghini or are you ok with a Camaro?

I got a hatsan escort and its amazing... bought if from a guy that owned a 930 and an M4 and he said the hatsan was better than his 930 (which had some trouble with light loads) and just as good as his M4. I ve put 100 rounds of light federal target loads through it and it was amazing. They were like $350-$400 ish prepanic but are not about $500 at big 5 and turners.

Been seeing a ton of good reviews for the CZ 712's. I'm picking one up shortly, but will be modifying it for use in 3 gun. I've seen used ones going for 350 pre panic.

You can not go wrong with a Benelli M1, M2 or M4. I have shot them all and they are all amazing shotguns. I own an M4 and will be buying an M2 in the next couple of months. I've put 350 rounds throught the M4 in just a couple of hours, never had any issues.

Be careful about the side saddles for the Mossberg.

I had one and found that the chicago screws that replace the trigger group pins can cause reliability issues. You can dick around with setting them just loose/tight enough but I don't want to trust my life to that. Plus it's a pain when you need to clean the trigger assembly, which does get dirty.

So I went to shell cards and velcro. Much better idea anyways......
