Am I mounting my shotgun wrong?

Hi Guys, I just participated in the so cal skeet clinic and the next morning I noticed a few bruises. The one in my shoulder I expected, I bruise easily, but I can't explain the one on my bicep (see picture). I'm guessing I am mounting my shotgun wrong?

EDIT: Please do not take this as any criticism or lack of confidence in the coaches at the clinic. I had a great time, great instruction, and came away with tools to become a better skeet shooter, these coaches are amazing. I apologize to Coach Don and Coach Richard for any offense i have communicated.

Yep, the gun shouldn't be on your bicep.

Do you have your elbow pointed towards the ground when you shoot? Elbow should be pointed out to the right.

        I'd say no.

And your shoulder should not bruise either - or at least mine doesn't.

Higher right elbow, the higher the elbow the more of a pocket you make for the stock.. Try it..

Try it just sitting there at the computer, point your elbow downward and then just raise it to horiziontal, you can feel the difference with your left hand even without the gun... Have Fun Skeetin..

My guess is that the gun is coming out of the shoulder pocket after the first shot and the second shot is causing all the bruising.

Make sure you pull the gun in tight to your shoulder. Let your whole body absorb the recoil. If you give it room to move it will beat you up.

The Bicep bruise is likely from you trying to mount the shotgun quickly and you didn't succeed in getting it positioned correctly before you fired. You only need to do that once to get a nice bruise.

This might be weird, and I could just be completely different, but I shoulder my shotgun a little further into my pec than that picture (right above my nipple, or close to it). Personally, I find it easier to point quickly, and I've gotten to where I've put down 150+ mixed birdshot/00B/slugs with not soreness or bruising afterwards. I also just realized I stay elbow down as well :/

Maybe I'm doing something wrong too, but it works for me.

CK 32....most excellent illustrations....that is exactly how it's done.

If you're turned sideways like a rifle shooter, I can see how it's possible you got a bruise on your bicep. If you mounted the gun as depicted in your photobucket illustration, not possible as your stance is not sideways. You had to have mounted incorrectly once and didn't realize it....well until you saw your bicep that is.

You want to have the gun pulled into your body as described previously, cheek tight (welded) to stock, elbow raised and basically level with the ground. Feet apart about shoulder width and flat footed facing forward, the right foot slightly behind the left. DO NOT turn sideways like a rifle shooter, it will not allow a full swing as you are limiting your range. (Balanced, ever hear a professional coach tell an athlete to be off balance?) Lean/bend slightly at the waist and put 80% of your weight on your left leg since you're right handed. Don't use your torso to make your move in the target, use your legs. (Think a tank turret here, your legs being the force to turn it.) This sort of stance will allow you upper torso to help absorb the recoil and move with the target.
