    Ammo question....

Since i'm new to this, i'm looking for suggestions on what kind of ammo I should pick up. Some cheap reliable stuff for wasting during playtime, and some for the HD purpose.

I know prices are high right now, but I'm also wondering what normal prices are as well so I know when I find a good deal.

I just bought 00B for $15 a box. Box=15 rounds. This is Remington or Federal.

          1 box of 5 rounds is $5.99

1 box of armor piercing is $30 for 4 rounds and they have better rounds for more money. Ridiculous prices on armor piercing rounds.

+1 for Fiocchi. I run their reduced recoil OO buck for home defense. Cycles flawlessly and I can shoot Federal bulk birdshot (Walmart $25) for practice because the recoil is very similar.

And here it is, OUT OF STOCK:

                Thanks guys. Helpful responses here.

I have a Fred Meyer across the border where I work. Maybe they have the Federal shells then I can bring them back tax free.

What is the argument for 00buck vs slugs for HD ?

With slugs your looking at extreme over penetration. OO buck is still going to go through walls, but at least you have 9 pellets going down range. Every HD situation is different. Do you live in a house or apartment? Whats in the background from where you decide to take your stand? Your kid's bedroom? Neighbor? Too many variables. Either way I wouldn't use slugs. Like I posted, I prefer reduced recoil OO buck. Less kick means I could get off a second shot much quicker.

Are you in Medford by chance?

Well I do live in California, but Medford is only a short hop and a skip away.

Sounds good enough to me. I have 3 kids, so maybe the buckshot is the way to go. I'll see what I can find.

Are there certain brands of ammo to stay away from?

So it looks like all anyone has right now over the border is remington shells.

I actually did pick up two boxes of slugs just for fun.

I got a 25rd box of remington target loads for 12 dollars. Then I went over to the other store, and they had 25rd box remington game loads for 5.99 so I got two of those. "12 gauge, 2-3/4 length, 1290 FPS, 1 oz shot, 7-1/2 shot"

How do the remington game loads compare to the federal birdshot that was recommended earlier on in this thread?

Hi, I'm new to this as well. For home defense I bought some Remington number 4 pheasant magnum loads (12.99 for 25), Federal number 4 buckshot (5.99 for 5), Remington 00 buckshot (5.99 for 5), Winchester PDX home defense rounds (25.00 for 20), a box of Remington rifled slugs (16.00 for 5) and for target practice some cheap Wolf(I think) 00 buckshot (3.99 for 5)and Remington target loads (number 8, 6.99 for 25). I'm still learning the do's and don't of home defense, so I bought a bunch of different stuff just in case they sell out everywhere. I was worried about being defenseless with no ammo in the event of an emergency.
