Wait until you get your hands on a Smith 500.

      Similar ballistics but weighs less.

Just thought I'd share for the amusement. That being said, this would probably only be practical with bird shot or target shot. Otherwise stick to a tactical stock.

"Managed Recoil" shotgun rounds help a little, but not so much with a setup like that.

I shot some 2 and 3/4 slugs and buck and it still wasn't fun to answer your question. Of course the cheap hard plastic handle wasn't fun. I will never play with one again. And don't listen about the 500 being worse. I shot a non ported 4" with really hot loads and it was better than 3" slugs from a crappy pistol grip and more fun.

LOL that's one way to figure out pistol grips are not a good item in real life.

this helps a great deal. The only round I won't shoot out of this is my remington 3" magnum 000 buck. Even slugs are bearable.

I "proofed" my hogue grip/forend 18.5" 870 express magnum with 250rds of target/slug/00buck sortie in one session of constant loading/shooting. Shot ALL of the rounds from the hip as fast as I could load the saddle and magazine without burning myself. 50 rounds of slug and 50 rounds of 00buck didn't hurt...much...but no doubt it was a freekin workout. Made me wish the forend had a strap to help me "hold" it when I shot the slugs/bucks after 150rds of target. A laser/light combo would work great for home defense shoot from the hip application. Glad I don't need to do this again. My trigger hand got tingly...but didn't suffer any bruising or swelling. I can still play the piano lol.

My mossberg 500 came with a pistol grip, I threw it away.
IMO opinion you want a full regular stock and a 18 inch barrel for HD if you sre going to use a shotgun. Personally I use my glock 22

Umm... I have the speed feed pistol grip, and i have no problems shooting any 12gauge ammo. Maybe the angle of the grip spreads the recoil through my arm which makes it easy to shoot. i can bring up the gun and sight it with any 2 3/4 shell, slugs and 00buck high brass.

3inch magnum shells i have to shoot from the hip, but it doesn't hurt me.

a youtube video i found with this grip, I personally love this grip

Jeez, I thought I had it bad when I shot 3" magnum 00 buck. Never has my cheek been slapped so hard.

Shot a friend's Rem 870 with a pistol grip and a narrow folding stock.
It was painful on the hand and shoulder.

Next time try using some gloves. Some that you feel comfortable shooting in. I shoot pistol grip all the time and my gloves really help absorb the recoil. Give it a try.

Last thing we want is shooters scared to shoot.

I personally use nike baseball gloves. They need to be replaced though. They're rather holey now.
