Been there, done that. Atleast you had a hogue, I was using a cheap tacstar or something awkward hard plastic handle. 10 3" slugs, 20 3" 00 buck and I was done for. 1st and only time using that stupid grip. Went to a collapseable stock instead. Much better.Stupid people; They're breeding.

I saw a GI in Iraq with a 590A1 setup like that try to shoot it like a handgun and proceeded to wack himself in the face. Everybody at the range huge laugh at him misfortune.sigpic

Exactly. Doesn't seem like much more on paper but it is.
I could shoot 2 3/4" slugs and 00 buckshot all day long on old Mossberg 500 with Hogue Tamer pistol-only grip, and it was very easy for me to manage & control by looking down the barrel to aim it (for my body type & strength). I could handle 3" shells, but it's not something I would want to shoot with the barrel next to my face. Now that kicks like a mule.Comment

Haha I have to reply because I remember about 20 years ago my friend had a mossberg with a pistol grip and bet me I couldn't shoot it one handed, arm fully extended like shooting a pistol with 3" buck shot and I did.... Thought it broke my thumb off, but I did it!!!! Now I have more sense, just a little bit more. HaComment

Jesus, all that on a pistol grip only setup?
Glad I read this thread, as I've been meaning to try 3" 00 buck-whatever on my SuperNova 'Tac. Just shooting the thing with regular birdshot was painful enough; the part of my chest where the stock was planted turned black for days. I can't wait to try some bigger shells, lol...

About 20 years ago, I put a pistol grip stock on an old 870 and took it out to field to check it out. I set out a few aluminum cans as targets, got back about 10 yards and fired at the first can. BOOM! and a quail jumps up and flew from right to left just beyond the cans. Pure instinct kicked in and I attempted to shoulder the gun with a stock that had no shoulder portion. As I pivoted my body and pulled through and ahead of the bird, I squeezed the shot... and caught the butt of the pistol grip right dead center of my mouth. Buttstroked my own face. I seriously thought I was going to be pooping teeth but it merely gave me the worst fat lip of my life.
Insult to injury- I missed the bird. Pistol grips have much less control than a conventional stock.
I have had no use for a pistol grip on a shotgun since then.Comment

Ha! We all learn this eventually. Low base is no fun either, eventually it will be painful too. Just stock it!"I would kill for a Nobel peace prize." Steven Wright"
