I *hate* sidesaddles on shotguns. I think they're clunky and unbalance the gun loaded.
But otherwise, your setup is fairly simple, I like it.
I preer the speedfeed stock- 4 rounds, totally out of the way until you need them.
I'm not a fan of pistol grips on shotguns either.
Sounds like you'd like my setup- a Mossberg 835 with two barrels- one about 19" with top rib, the other full length for clays/hunting:

A Mossberg 500 forend was adapted to it, so you can run any 500 accessories.
It takes 3.5" shells, for when you REALLY want something to stop
I've owned Remington 870s before also- they work the SAME. The 870 does have a more solid feeling pump, but on the range or in the field, same crap. I like that the painted alloy receiver on the Mossy won't rust, and I can abuse it
And it was cheap- I think I have under $550 in the whole setup.
