You'd think that with all of Mossberg's resources, they could at least get rid of some of their crappier guns and concentrate on THAT project!
I just found one in the market place so I dont care any more.

      SPX Shot Shell Preference

I've tried a friend's SPX and it sure is fun, fun, fun. No issues with any shot shells until it got real dirty, the Fiocchi Low Recoil shell does not cycle properly and brass cap does not extract.

I did notice that the 'lip' on the brass cap for the Fiocchi is shorter than the other brands of shot shells and I don't know if that and the low powder is what causes the failure to extract.

Once cleaned the shotgun had no more cycling problems. Although I would stay away from Fiocchi shells for home d just in case.

I'm finally getting my own SPX in mid-Feb and will do more testing. I would suggest having the store loosen the 'screw cap?' that holds the extended mag as it was a real ***** to take apart the first time.

I'm also considering a Nordic clamp...

      Hope this kind of helps.

in shooting classes pump guns run as good as the user... if u short stroke it while trying to throw alot of shot out... then ur probably gonna just drop your gun if its a double feed and imagine fiddling around in the dark with that situation haha im noticed that my 930 spx runs very good. other owners at the ranges ask if i have any problems of the 1st generations. however i can cycle the walmart bulk packs..and they seem the be very light loads...either way both guns are very good just be familiar with either one

I don't have an SPX but if I didn't already own a Benelli M1 S90 I'd buy a semiauto like an SPX or another Benelli. The sound of a slide racking may get a bad guy's attention but a 12ga 00 buck double-tap center mass will grab a charging badguy's undivided attention. And with a good semiauto you can shoot fast enough double-tap him and his bad guy buddy too before either has time to say "oh darn".

Can a fast operator with an 870 come close to the pace of the 930 SPX?
