Question on clay shooting

I'm thinking of starting clay shooting as my weekly hobby. On average, how much does it cost for four rounds and 100 targets? I'll buy my own shotgun soon.

I guess it depends on where you go. One place I go it's $7 /round, another it's $5 /round, plus between $5-7 per box of shells. That's $40-60 for a hundred clay day. I have to factor in the refreshments between rounds so my total is much higher, but still a great value!

I pay $8 per round at Prado Shooting park. Shells are around $6 - $7 per box of 25. Your total cost for 4 rounds is somewhere around $56.
You can buy 10 rounds (coins) at a time and save a little.

In Nor Cal you can check out the Nor Cal Skeet Clinic.

Both with give you good fundamentals in mounting and firing a shotgun as well as introducing you to one of the clay sports. A side bonus is that you can borrow a lot of different guns and try them out.

What part of Cali are you at, OP?

We use the bring your own clays launcher at Angeles and we bring our own clays now.

A box of 90 clays on sale is about 9-10 bucks, 135 clays about 14 bucks and game loads are about .20-.25 cents.

Northern CA check in here. It really does depend on what you shoot and where. Yesterday I shot a round of sporting clays and two rounds of skeet. Sporting clays per 100 cost $35.00 and two rounds of skeet was $5.00 each (member rate) non member is $6.00. With shells about $37.50 it cost for the day $82.50. Sporting clays is more expensive than trap or skeet. It you were to go shoot a couple rounds of trap, it would be cheaper.

+1 on some training. It will make the money you lay out for your skeet rounds pay off more.

I only shot clays once and loved it enough to commit to buying 3 shotguns. Haven't even been since that first excursion but I plan to go very soon gotta pick up my m2 next week.

Where do you live?

If you know anyone stationed at Pendleton, it's $5 for active duty+family and $8 for guests.

Ammo is $8 a box.

Next time you're on base head over to range 107.

They have guns you can rent so you can try different types before buying one.

I'm starting out with a pump gun which isn't ideal, but works fine for shooting singles.

The instructors will also give you some pointers if it's your first time and believe me it helps.

Not criticizing, but I would like to point out tho maybe not ideal, with practice, one can shoot multiples with a pump. We shot trap using the dept. Ithaca Model 37 Deerslay, shooting 00 buck and we would start with singles, but the instructor would eventually get up to triples.

Sometimes it would be 3 in front of us, but at a distance apart that would require separate shots and sometimes one to the left, to the center and to the right at the same time. We would have 10 clays total thrown and I consistently hit 9 of 10 for years. I always managed to miss one. I know of other deputies that did the same or better.

Obviously, a semi-auto shooting bird shot, would probably be a lot easier.
