    Mossberg Ghost Ring install

I have a newer Mossberg 500A, bought some OEM ghost rings and found that while the rear was plug and play, the front had to be silver soldered. I didn't want to wait four months for the smith, so I tried JB Weld. Held fine through birdshot, but a few #4 turkey loads knocked it clean off.

I decided to try again, but with something different - Williams Gun sights makes front ramps that screw on. I bought one from Brownells:
    SKU Number....Product Name
    962-020-282..1692 STREAMLINED SCREW-ON RAMP 3/8

I also bought a pack of 5-40 screws, and a set of of 5-40 taps.
    Stock Number......Description
    080-050-540WB...Size 5 - 40 x 1"
    395-540-001WB...Taper Tap, 5-40, 38, 29
    395-540-003WB...Bottom Tap, 5-40, 38, 29
    395-540-002WB...Plug Tap, 5-40, 38, 29

Just this evening I cut one of the screws to size, trimmed off a bit of the ramp that jutted out over the front, and screwed it together. It's great! It looks great and fits perfectly, and is exactly the same height as the OEM Mossberg ramp. I disassembled it, added the JB Weld and reassembled it, and it is now setting. I am very pleased, and should be able to report on the effectiveness in a few days as I will be going out to the range this weekend.

I'll take photos and add them to the thread after the front ramp sets.

Sorry I didn't get back to this - yes it worked perfectly, held very nicely through 30 birdshot (#8) and 30 heavier #4 high brass - it has not loosened at all. I will post some pictures shortly.

I drilled the hole for the rear screw slightly too low, so it's gone in at an angle. Ugh. I'll be fixing that soon.

You can see in the first picture that the rear screw came in at a slight angle. I need to widen the pocket on the ramp so I can screw that in straight. This did not affect the stability of the ramp though - it's on there tight! Both pictures gives you a good angle of what I ground off of the front. Compare that to a stock picture.
