Working out, shotguns, and something I learned today.

I've been lifting weights for about 2 months now. I'm not a giant hulking monster (yet!) but I have noticed some changes around my chest and shoulders.

Today, at the skeet class, I discovered that the perfect little pocket in my shoulder where I could plant my shotguns buttpad was... gone.

Also, my shoulder is sore-er now then it was last time. The bruising is more pronounced.

Ah well... at least I might not die when I'm 50...

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

When you shoot 12ga, is it best to remember that pain is weakness leaving the body. Lift till you puke and shoot till you're broke.

What're you shooting BFG? 1 oz? Assume you're using an O/U? May be start loading 7/8 oz loads? I can tell you that when I went from 1 1/8 oz loads down to 7/8, it was like I was shooting a 410!

Of course, losing some weight is never a bad thing. I certainly need to hit the gym myself a little more.

        12g 590 with 1.125oz 1350fps hunting loads that I got on sale. ;-)

        I.

        Refuse.

        To.

        Shoot.

        7/8.

It's one of my few concessions to my male ego.

I got to shoot two boxes of 3" 1&1/8oz through my 930 today--good stuff. Really turning out to be a hilariously fun rifle. I love the powder marks on my fore(left) hand from the outgassing and wore them with pride throughout the rest of the day but alas, no one recognized the signature of a day spent overgripping a 930 shooting stout loads.

Committed to some awesome shoulder workouts this week. Let's check in after next weekends' slugging to see what worked and what didn't.

I don't shoot shotguns, but I do shoot Mosins and they kick like mules. I also lift 5 days a week. I lift heavy and hard and I've been doing this for years. My shoulders are my best feature. Despite this, having packed on the meat has never helped me take recoil any better. In fact, I think the opposite may be true. If I have to skip the gym for a few weeks or a month due to injury or sickness, I notice that shooting my Mosin is a little easier on my shoulder. Muscle tends to loosen up (and atrophy!) due to no activity. Maybe this creates more cushion. I'm really not sure what it is. But I have personally experienced what you stated above.

As another poster stated, "Lift till you puke and shoot till you're broke."

              ><

Just before the last storms the wife and I hit the range. She went through 225-250 rounds of 12ga 1300fps (AA Sporting 1 1/8oz and Win Steel ) over the weekend. Never gets a bruise and she is about 140ish.
