How important is that slip-in spring retainer on a 590?

When you take the magazine tube nut off the front of the shotgun there is a little metal retainer that holds the spring in.

Mine appears to have been distorted. With it installed the nut doesn't slide back on. Take it out and the nut goes on much better.

This part isn't really important, is it? The main job is to not lose the spring when you remove the barrel?

Not important at all. Remove it and never put it back in lol

It wouldn't work anymore in my 590A1 anyway as I have a Vang Comp extension.

Yup its not really important. I keep mine on so I don't have to deal with pushing the spring back in every time I clean the barrel.
