testing out shotgun in range question

    Hello everybody,

I want to try out shooting a shotgun in a range. However, I am short and the shotgun's length of pull might be to long and bulky. Also, I might have to use full power loads, although in a hd situation I would use reduced recoil loads and I would have a recoil pad. How do you know what shotgun you want to buy and how much it recoils if you can't use your desired setup or loads through it? I don't want to spend money on a shotgun that I end up not liking.

Do you have any friends that own SG's who you go to the range with?

Worried about length and recoil, get a bantam (junior) length 20ga.

      Where do you live?

Most of the ranges near LA rent shotguns.

Many of the shotguns have a collapsible butt stock (or can have an aftermarket one attached) to accommodate shooters and you can easily put on a recoil pad.

Many ranges will let you rent one. If you are looking for a good hd gun, I personally recommend the Benelli Nova tactical. I am sure the Remington and Mossberg guys will be here shortly to override my choice.

              ><

Start here...the coachs will show you all you need to know. They also have a lot of different guns to try. They are well versed in getting a shotgun to fit YOU, which translates into good mount and less recoil.

It will be well worth the drive and for the money its a damm good bargain

Not true, I own a 870, and after fireing a Nova, I liked it better. But I'm cheap so I'll probably keep the 870 forever, as it is dependable and will probably out last me.

I really struggled with length of pull. My husband's Winchester was so long and then he added a butt pad to it, my right hand was a full 12 inches from my face when I shouldered his shotgun. To try ans hit anything when trap shooting was difficult and my back hurt after 50 rounds. I ended up buying a shotgun sight unseen just because the stock was adjustable from a 12" length of pull to 14". I use a 1 ounce load. Look at the Beretta 3901 or something similar with an adjustable stock. My trap shooting has improved greatly and I can shoot hundreds of rounds with no problem. Sometimes you just go on faith. I love my Beretta.

I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. Unknown
