    Saiga 12 legal? How?

I'd like to get my hands on one, but my local FFL told me its straight up illegal, and that all semi-auto shot guns with detachable magazines are illegal. Is it just a matter of putting on a bullet button? Even if you keep everything 'featureless'? Is the local FFL an idiot?
    thanks

As long as it has a BB it's perfectly legal and you answered your own question on the local FFL

send said ffl copy of flow chart.
now if he still makes the same claim after being informed, then he may in fact be an idiot.

Your FFL is almost right. Semi-auto shotguns with detachable magazines are illegal in California. Maybe he doesn't know about magazine locks.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Do what jrock said. Or find another FFL dealer.

Doesnt it also have to have 922r compliance parts installed along with a maglock ?

Only if you are changing the imported configuration to something "non-sporting."

Look at Federal regulations for importation. If it can be legally imported in a certain configuration, it is a sporting config.

The Calguns flowchart is a great reference

Semi auto shotguns can have a fixed mag- no detachable mags

Semis cannot have any other banned features-
So no folding stocks- no telescopic stocks if you have a pistol grip

922R is triggered by a non sporting configuration.
                      So AK style conversion
                      Magazine over 5 rounds
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Oh - no mags over 10 in CA in a shotgun

Over 10 rounds in a saiga- I think- makes it an AW under CA laws

Over 10 rounds is okay in a shotgun, but the magazines are still subject to normal restrictions. Somebody able to purchase large capacity magazines can legally use them in a BB equipped Saiga 12.
