How about shotgun launched Bolo net?

Take some fishing line, cut slits in lead 00 and crimp shut on lines(2ft), then tie about 15 lines together so they are all on 2ft lines, then carefully pack into 3 1/2" (to allow room for line) and fire out of shotgun with mild choke with home-made very mild twist rifling so weights will spread and net would be 4ft wide circle.

Sure, the line will be considerable air drag.

Could this be effective to snagging live birds at maybe up to 30 yards?

You are counting on it coming out and spreading like a casting net. I would think that it is more likely to tangle up. And I don't know if the fishing line would be strong enough to hold it all together. If it did hold together, and it did come out like you want, and you didn't splatter the bird with the buckshot, I would think that it would end up acting like those turkey guillotine arrow heads. Sliced bird.

I bet with a low dram charge, the right sabot or shot cup design, and a lot of beer for r&d it could happen....

But try getting an investment for it when u can get a neumatic version thatll be more effective

A spreader cup with attach points for the net, and a blunderbuss choke tube with like a 3 to 1 twist for fuller opening; some popped rice filler over a reduced charge for reduced velocity.
