    870 heat shield recommendations....

    Hey all.

Simple question. Does anybody have any recommendations on a good secure heat shield for the Remington 870?

I wanted something exactly like this but reading the comments below is kinda making me look for something else. (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/272...ynthetic-black)

    Thanks!

i installed this shield on my 870 and the comments you saw are indeed an issue. although, mine did not break during installation like some other users, after a few sessions of shooting, the shield did walk on me a bit and i had to reposition it. im trying to think of a way to secure it better and i'll let you know if i come up with one.

with that said, the shield is functional, which is the primary reason i got it and makes the shotgun look more tactical (i have the breacher choke).

You will not see many serious, fighting 870's with a heat shield. One, because they really aren't needed (just more tacticrap) and two, nobody makes one that is reliable and of good quality.

On a tactical shotgun, less is more.

I had a weld crack on the one that came with my mossberg

The heat shield then rotated and locked up the action

If you look at the requirement for a tacticsl shotgun class form all of the big schools, none require the heat shield

In all of the rounds I have fired, I have never burned my hand nor seen a student in a class burn there hand...

Shields might look cool to some....

But the heat shield might appear to be solution seeking a problem......

Tacticool mall ninjas unite! I wouldn't add the weight and problems that come with heat shields or barrel shrouds. I just don't see the need for those shoulder things that go up.

There is a reason there are places to put your hands on shotguns. The simple solution to heat shields on shotguns is don't touch the the skinny metal part that gets hot.

That rail took a fast reaction weapon and turned it into Fred Flintstones club.

All you need is a side saddle, light, and shells.

And adds enough weight as it is!
Heat shield on a combat shotgun is a poor idea.

yep.... featurecreep on roids. I still keep this fortune cookie wrapper that says something to the effect of 'Confucius say simplicity of character is the natural result of profound thought'. I like to think that about the character of my 870 HD in black. Just like my car stereo days... I guess it is a stage we all go through with accessorizing like teenage girls... mine has evolved into something more maneuverable over the years with less furniture. Bandolier is bed side for insurance as that side saddle was never really ideal for me and I assume if I am needing more than 6+1 to terminate a threat, I might as well have 25-50 in my Blackhawk which is about as intimidating as anything more I could mount on my receiver or rail.
