    Browning A5

I've asked a similar question on an older A5, but got several different answers:

Can you shoot steel or some other non-lead loads through a 1971 A5 for waterfoul? Shotgun was made in Belgium if that makes any difference. It has a 30" barrel.

    Thank you.

    No idea.

Have you thought of giving Browning a call??

True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

Technically no unless it has a Japanese made barrel. All the Belgium made ones are not rated for steel shot. With that said, I have shot plenty of steel shot through mine without any adverse wear or effects...

If it's a clean A5 I wouldn't do it. If it's in beater condition go for it.

You can find a later production barrel for your A5, some with fixed chokes and some with Invector or Invector Plus screw in chokes. But be prepared to pay as much as you did for your shotgun. Make sure if you go this route that you buy a barrel that is the same as your receiver. Meaning a 3" barrel won't work on a 2 3/4 receiver and vice versa.

I've got an older A5 and would love to shoot steel through it, but all the barrels I've found have been over $300. Maybe I'll pick one up someday, but right now that's a bit costly.
