Poke around your local gun store consignment racks. There are bargains to be had, and I've been seeing decent prices on lightly used guns local to me lately. If you have any clay shooting clubs nearby, might check their bulletin boards as real diamonds can be found that way.

Fit is everything with a shotgun. Shoulder them repeatedly, if it's a good fit you'll know it pretty quickly. If it's not, move on.

If you spend the $30 to get your C&R FFL from the ATF, you can have C&R shotguns shipped to your door. I have picked up several decent shotguns from gunbroker in the $100-125 range. If you would rather not go that route, but don't have the money for a new one, hit the local gun stores and pawn shops. We can't help you with a list of them because you haven't listed where you live. But do your research. Make sure that you aren't buying a model that is known to have problems. An old Maverick 88 would be good if you can get one for under $175. They are Mossberg's off-brand, and can use most Mossberg 500 parts. Failing that, look for old Remington 870s or Mossberg 500s. They seldom last long in stores because everybody wants them. You can also look for some of the old store brand guns like Sears Ranger, or Montgomery Wards Western Field. These were made for the different chain stores by companies like Mossberg or Stevens/Savage. They tend to last longer on the used market because they don't have the same brand recognition as the others. Often they are the same guns though. Good luck!
