Bucktooth, my definition of long range defense is anything out past 40-50 yrds. I live on acreage and not in a subdivision or "neighborhood". I like the option of being able to hit a target (whatever it may be) at longer ranges with the devastating power and accuracy of a 437.5 grain (1oz.) hollow point slug. I also like having the option of using 00 buck or bird shot for close range targets. It's a matter of versatility you see......My shotgun is built for me and for my use. If there was only 1 gun I could have for survival, home defense, or just about any other situation where a firearm would be needed, it would be my 870. BTW we don't have to many gangsters out here in the sticks..

Saw a tactical at Big 5 with a bead but had the one piece tube in Alameda for 389. Saw the same older style 870 in Dublin. I think you better get one now before all Big 5's make the change to the incompatible new model. Sale ends the 21.

The legal issue will be a question of shooting someone at 150 yds for self defense. It might not be a question if the car load of gangsters had AK 47's sticking out the windows as they came up your drive way LOL.Even shooting someone at 40 or 50 yds might be a issue if they weren't shooting back at you.

Shorty forty, I'm on your side. I wish i lived in the sticks with a definite lack of gangsters. The urban setting in which I live has plenty.
As far as I can recall all of the clearly self defense incidents in the last 10 years were at very short range. I keep a .38 handy.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread, looking forward to having more conversation.
We will do as we will do because I am me and you are you.

How come you don't want a 26" barrel? Why 28?
