870 express question

i dont know what to get the 870 tactical or the 870 28" i want to hunt and shoot at targets but i also want home defense, does anybody know how much the 28" barely is or the 18" for the 870 or should i get a classic wood finish or the polymer version so itll be all black for hunting and home defense help!

And new they are only about $10 more expensive for $28"ers.. Just buy another barrel online (PM aippi) I think he knows or has a shop that has them for decent prices.

When I purchased mine I bought the 28" version because I wanted a specific barrel for home defense purposes. My preference was the 20" cyl bore rifle- sighted barrel for slug use and longer range defense. The accuracy out to 150meters is quite impressive when using rifled slugs. At the time my 870 was to be an all around gun (HD, sporting clays, rifle) and it fit the bill perfectly.

Then keep your eye out for a used 18 plain or 20 rifle sight (or heck, just buy any used bbl and cut it down!)

so your saying get the 28" with the wood so i can do my fun stuff then just find an 18" to switch it out im new to shotguns more a pistol and rifle guy

Doesn't the tactical come with ghost rings and a rail ? I would get that. Not sure if it is compadible with the bead of a 28"er .

Get the longer one, like the others said you can find used 20 or 18s on gunbroker easily. I got a new 20" police take off for 99 shipped.

Yea you can buy almost any 870 and buy a longer barrel for it. I say almost any because some new 870s like the Blackhawk knoxx stock tactical has some funky new extended mag tube that makes it not accept other barrels appariently. So depending on what tactical version you get no..

And the tactical comes with ghost sites which will making any clay or hunting a bi*** to shoot.

And the tactical is almost another $200 more than a standard basic 870. Paying for better finish and tacticool goodies it comes with.. rail ghost sites and tac choke they come with.

Hey, he may have a 150 yrd driveway!
I like the idea of a rifled barrel for a low cost pump carbine solution, especially if the +/- $1000 for a semi auto rifle is a little to steep for the budget.
