Picked up my IAC Hawk 982 yesterday and took it to the range today. This shotgun is great. Shot 25 rounds of 7.5 bird shot and zero issues. The action functioned flawlessly. I think the gun is well made. Mine has a small scratch on it already (I think it was the manager at the Big 5 putting on the trigger lock on).

My only disappointment is my shooting range doesn't allow you to shoot your own shotgun ammo. You have to purchase their shells. Anyone know where I can shoot my shotgun with my own ammo in the LA/OC area? I've got some buck shot and slugs that I want to try out

Final question: Where can I get parts and accessories that fit this shotgun? I'm also looking for small enough hardware to replace the notched screws that loosen and strip on the ghost ring.

Love this shotgun, especially for what I paid for it.

Screws are M4 socket and cap screws, I believe its specified on page 3, but somewhere in this thread for sure.

As far as where to shoot, I'm not sure, BLM land is always good.

I've heard these guys allow SG. Let us know what you find out; I want to head up there myself.

Those guys are expensive. Quoting $50 for rangetime between two.

According to thier range rules on the web site they don't allow shotguns.
            Rule #4 of their rules.

Firing Line in Northridge allows shotguns provided you buy their 25 rds of #6 (I think) for $20.

FYI, I took my 982 to the range today with a buddy who has never shot a SG before and we both had a blast. The 982 performed flawlessly and all our shots were right on target.
We shot a bunch Winchester low base 7 1/2 target loads (the ones the 870 is currently having problems with extraction) without any problems. Also shot some Remington 00 buck, Winchester Ranger low-recoil 00 buck, and some Remington rifled slugs. Recoil: Slugs 10, 00 buck 8, low recoil 00 buck 6, target load 3

One weird thing that happened with the target loads was that one of the shells created on big hole like it was a slug, I wonder what happened on that shot?
Thats the plug flying out and hitting the target...

                  Orosco Ridge in Ramona

Shot mine the other day for the first time...Bought the Adventure pass plus 2nd vehicle, my cousin and I split for $17.50 each..

what a blast, shoulder/chest was a little sore but perfectly fine today.

Had Remington and Winchester target loads.

Had no problems obliterating targets, some clays when hand thrown.

The ghost sights are kick ***, dead on, anything in the "ring" is acquired. I bought the allen head screws/loctite and replaced them ala Max1000.

My cousin has the winchester defender, not bad with a bead sight but felt the Norinco Ghost sight acquisition was way better..........did I say waaaay better. That was the first time I've ever shot clays and I hit 3 out of a dozen. Some of the failures I felt were due to the toss was right over me instead of in front.

I've never shot a remington 870 before but almost bought one before I read this post, if it's anything like the 982 it's money with a ghost ring sight. I paid about $240 out the door with a dam lock and tax from Big 5.

Out of the box with no adjustments other than replacing the screws, the shotgun was dead on within the 25-50 yards.

At 10 yards obliterated a 2x4 with a target load, broke in half immediately.

I can imagine 00 or slug.

I'm not that familiar with "smoothness" but from a first timer shooting shotgun, action felt good.

Once you test what kind of pattern you get with target loads, at close range they're right when they describe a 12 gauge like a mini cannon. With limited overpenetration through dry wall.

                  We also shot .223, 7.62x39, 22lr and 9mm at site 1.

Having no restrictions on how fast you can fire is f'n nice! Boys can live out their dreams of, ultimate fire unleashed on the hill

I didn't bring my .357, .45 or my wife's .38, now that we're familiar with that place and have the pass we'll be there more often.

~Site 1 at Orosco is a mess, shells targets, definite signs people aren't packing their trash. Shell casings all over. I don't know if this is the same at the other four sites.

If there's ever a clean up day at Orosco, I'd volunteer so we can keep the environmentalists off our backs. Roads aren't that great but if everyone took out a garbage bag full in their truck, would be good for the environment.

982 Rocks, I'm sure the Remy 870 does too!

The Interstate 982 with GS sights is at big 5, for those that have been waiting to get one.

                      Chinese gun with American wood:

Have 3 870's along with this one. Can't say one is better than the others, but the action on the Hawk is the roughest of them all. The Hawk is a good camp/truck gun and cheap enough if it gets stolen, I won't be too pissed.

Do they include the KY at no charge along with the shells, or do you buy that separately??

For me it's a draw. Interstate Hawk 982 that I have has much better sights than the 870 Express, but the action was quite rough in the beginning. It got to the point of being pretty much the same as 870's with use, but the sights on the 982 is still better

Wow, over 200 replies about a clone shotgun. Only on Calguns.net. You guys are somthing. Sad thing is how you convince yourselves they are as good as the originals.

Your 987 what ever it is, is a good as an 870 and some cheap knock off of the model 37 is as good as the Ithica origninal and those Winchester knock off are as good as the 1200 and 1300. I see a disturbing pattern here.

Are these things being built to SAAMI standards? Bet not. Where is the Quality control. Their workers live in barracks and are marched to work and make about $2 a day. Add the fact that China is still an agressive communist country with their eye on the world, but now the realize they can do it financially as they have a massive slave labor force. I would not give a darn if their mess was as good as Mossberg or Remington, and it is not, I still would not buy it.

If you would come to any reality you would simply state that these things work for you and are worth what you pay for them. One clown even stated the 987 was on par with the Remington 870 Police. Yes, he posted that right on calguns.net.

I am only adding the above as there are guys out there right now thinking about getting a shotgun and reading the mess you guys posted may keep him from getting a Remington, Winchester or Mossberg. So for that guy I say this. Man get a 500, 590, 1300 or 870 and don't fall for the mess in this thread.

Sorry if I make some of you mad, not my intention. Let's call it an intervention cause that is what is needed here.
