If it's skeet you're going to try - forget the sights, you don't use them. You should attend Coach's class in the posts from bjl333. He's d'man. Out of Triple Bs, El Monte.

Forget the sights. Grab your gun - go See Coach.

I have seen a man who is 100% "cross eye dominant" (ie: he only has one eye that works, and it's the wrong side) shoot skeet just fine without any sights. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's won tournaments with that situation.

You'll have a disadvantage at first, no doubt, but practice will prevail.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

        ><

        Neither sight will help.

You have find a way to stop the eyes from dueling with each other.

Runway has it right......see a coach. It will be cheaper than spending money on sights, shells, range time.

Coach Z (the coach Runway mentions) helped my cross-eye-dominant wife go from never touching a shotgun before to breaking clays by lunchtime.

Another thing to think about is one of those weird left eye ribs...

Personally, I think the red-ring approach would be easiest. You might even consider one of the cheapish multi-reticule holo sights for something similar. If you decide it works for you, you can move the tester sight to your .22 or airgun (or sell it) and upgrade to the real thing.

The Red dot sight and the colored bead will just make you check your barrel more and will not work. You can achieve the same thing as the offset rib with a crossover stock and in my opinion the crossover stock would be much better since you would still only have one "barrel" to see in your peripheral vision.

My best advise for the experience level your at would be, for now, continue to use some kind of patch until you have the fundamentals down more solidly. Then try both eyes unpatched. You can learn to shoot cross eye dominant, it can be done, but it"s harder, usually much harder.

If you can not shoot left handed, and will not wear an eye patch, you will most likley have to learn to shoot cross eye dominant, or get a crossover stock.

Some people say you can train the non-dominant eye to take over, I haven't seen it, maybe they have, I kind of doubt it, but who knows.

Somebody fill in if I left something out.

Right hand shooter left eye dominant here.. Took the skeet clinic and couldn't hit anything the way they wanted me to shoot. They said to close left eye, knowing I was left eye dominant I decided on my own to just open both eyes and watch the bird. Well I started hitting them, coach said no way I am left eye dominant.... Hmmm so while both eyes open lookin down the barrell of a shotgun I realized he was right and my righ eye was taking over with both eyes open???. Must be from years of rifle shooting I don't know but that Is what is happening with me. I now shoot both eyes open and it works well for me. Pistol I still look through the left eye.

If the above solutions dont work. You can have a crossover stock made for you.

If you are truly cross dominant, and have confirmed it with an instructor, glazing the left lens (I most often use opaque scotch tape with folks I teach) to train the right eye to focus on the bird is likely the quickest and easiest solution.

Keep your "eyes" open. Dominant eye is not an issue in clay shooting if you have them both open. Focus, focus, focus. All coaches will repeat the same thing. You cant get good focus with one eye shut. Plus, it is a serious handicap trying to shoot sporting clays with one eye shut. I have shot many tournaments with many ranked shooters, and cant think of one who closes an eye.

Try a fiber optic front sight. It will give a point of reference for your right eye. I too am left eye dominant and shoot right handed with my nearsighted right eye(left eye is just fine...)
Same thing applies for red dots. I use an aimpoint because the eotech is distracting for my weak eye.
